Still in nappys age 9

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone could help my son aged 9 is still in nappys due to having chronic constipation to the point a few months back had to go into hospital and have manual disimpaction now on 4 sachets of movicol aday so hopefully have got that under control but hes terrified of the toliet so cant begin to potty train him hes at the min being tested for asd aswell. I just need some help on what to do next to get him 2 start using the toilet as his nappys are 2 small for him cause will only wear certain 1s and hes a big boy.

My Granddaughter was still in pullups full time at your sons age, she suffered from persistent diarrhea since she was a toddler, She now has good bowel control but is back in nappies due to her underdeveloped bladder caused by all the years of nappies and pullups.

She wasn't afraid of the toilet, and found it had to push out solid stools into her pullups so she got the hang of it after a few months.

Peeing is a different ballgame.

What nappies are you currently using?

I've had to resort to buying adult nappies for her online because nothing I can get from a supermarket or pharmacist works for her.

Hi yh he has no control on bowel he does everything in a nappy as hes so frightened of the toilet he was in asda little Angel's 6+ but have just changed him over to size 8 pampers as seem 2 be a bit bigger x

Am afraid to say it but you might have a long struggle on your hands to get him using the toilet.

Even without being particularly afraid of the toilet getting her interested in using it instead of her pullups was difficult, I tryed most of the normal bribes like toys and sweets, but they didnt really motivate her to go without being made too.

Eventually I started taking her days out if she managed to have less than 1 poo accident a day for at least 3 days.

This worked at getting her clean during the day.

Is your son in mainstream school? Sophies school started a toilet buddy scheme for her where if another girl wanted to leave class to go to the loo, they had to take sophie with them, this really cut down the amount of wetting accidents she was having at school.

Unfortunately I've not been able to replicate that success during lockdown so she is back in nappies by her own choice.

Sophie grew out of size 6+ when she was 7, I've bought the size 8 pampers before if I couldn't get her drynites.

She's now using size small tena slips.

Yeah he is in mainstream school which r helping with him as much as they can with a ladder of worry so he can take 1 step at a time with going to the toilet but with lockdown it's all on hold. His 6+ were really 2 tight and digging into him but he only will wear certain 1s he wont even wear pullups which much be easier them being in them like your granddaughter is.

We did get much bigger 1s from incontinence nurse but wont wear them.

Hi Carley

If your boy only wants a certain type of nappy take a look at this web site, good range of reusable nappies, fun colors and patterns he might like. I have a few for my boy and he loves them, there very comfortable absorbent and contain poo very well as they have double leg gussets.

My lad withholds his poo and tends to push it out during the night and these nappies hold everything in till I get to him for his morning change.

If you don't mind washing nappies then I would recommend them.

hi Leigh, have you found a solution for this? if so do you mind sharing what worked? my ds (7) has been pooing in hs night nappy for the past month or so now, pretty much doing exactly the same as your ds and nothing i do seems to be working x

I know this sounds odd, but there are such things as Adult baby nappies. They look like kids nappies. They have pictures etc on them. Also very absorbent apparently. Saw them on a website. One brand is called Rearz I think. I'm sure if you search adult baby nappies/diapers you'll find them. Hope this is of some help.

How can something for babies also be suitable for adults?

Surely they would be far to big for even the biggest of baby's but too small for any adult.

I looked it up again and they're made to fit adults and I believe older children/teens. There are apparently lots of adults who use them. Strange yes. Also true. I think some people with incontinence use them as they hold more than medical adult nappies do. Others wear them because they just like wearing nappies and or acting like babies. I discovered there are thousands of people who do this. They're called adult babies and or diaper lovers. AB/DL for short. It's funny what you find when you do a little research lol. Anyway, the point was if you have a child who likes only baby like nappies then these might be the answer. Hope this helps.
