Hi natureschild,

I am a bit unsure myself but I've heard the average is about 25 for complete infertility or fetal problems like the child having down syndrome or cerebral palsy. As for how long it takes for Endo sufferers to get pregnant, it's an average of 2-5 years. Things that can help are having a laparoscopy to get it lasered off and get pregnant within 6 months of having the lap as you can conceive easier if they've taken most of it away.

There is no proof that fertility treatment actually helps with getting pregnant but there is no harm in trying. When I start trying soon, I will give anything a go. Even if it means standing on my head whilst doing sudoku and eating olives (and I hate olives!!)

Unfortunately, there is a downside to being pregnant. This isn't to scare you off or to make you think it's a bad idea but I feel I should warn you of all things that could happen. If you do get pregnant, there is a slight chance that you could miscarry. This normally happens within the first 4 months and very rarely up to 6 months.

If you don't miscarry then amazing and you can carry on as normal after 6 months but be warned, there will still be a bit of pain whilst you are pregnant as the baby is stretching the area that the endo is on. If you've ever cut yourself and then it heals slightly and you catch it again, that is sort of what it is like, opening an almost healed cut.

There can be another bad side which is having an ectopic pregnancy. You may or may not know what it means but I'll tell you anyway. It means the baby has developed in the fallopian tubes and this is usually caused by endo blocking the way into your womb (a reason to have a lap to remove the endo and prevent this). If this happens, they can do a lap to remove the blockage but sadly you also have to abort the baby as moving it down into the womb after unblocking the tubes will cause you to miscarry anyway sadly.

I hope that has answered your questions, if not feel free to message me as I have quite a lot of knowledge about this.

Good luck and hope everything goes well for you.

Leya :)

I think sometimes it's so easy to look at the negatives of endo and pregnancy, but it isn't always like that! Anyone can unfortuantely miscarry, about 1 in 4 women miscarry regardless of endo. The average time to get pregnant when is 12-18 months for all women, and sometimes endo can cause infertility. However, any person can suffer infertility for any number of reasons; poor sperm quality, obesity, scarred tubes related to infection etc.

The reason there is no exact answer to the endo and fertility question is because there is no answer. Some women with advanced endo get pregnant in a heartbeat, some women with minimal endo can't get pregnant.

In reality you should just wait to start TTC until you're ready, and accept that it may take a little while. you never know what life is going to throw at you, and although the statistical best chance is within 6 months after a lap, it doesn't mean it is the only time you can get pregnant. There are ladies on here who haven't even known they have had endo until after giving birth, and there are other people who have been trying for years with no success.

Whatever you do good luck and don't put pressure on yourself - 1 in 6 couples seek help conceiving regardless of endo x
