WENT FOR MY COLONOSCOPY TODAY, IT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL PROCEDURE I'VE EVER HAD, I WAS SCREAMING IN PAIN I ASKED THEM TO STOP I THOUGHT MY INSIDES WERE GOING TO BURST.
THE SEDATIVE DIDN'T DO MUCH I NOW HAVE TO GO BACK AND HAVE A CT PNEUMCOLON SCAN IN 2 WEEKS. I CAN'T BELIEVE I WILL HAVE TO DRINK ANOTHER PREP. I'VE HAD A COLONOSCOPY BEFORE ABOUT 4 YRS AGO BUT DON'T REMEMBER IT BEING THIS PAINFUL. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY GOT TO MORE THAN HALF WAY WHEN I ASKED THEM TO STOP.
I'M FEELING SO DEPRESSED AS I THOUGHT EVERTHING WOULD BE OVER TODAY.
I'M SURE THE PAIN COULD HAVE BEEN MADE WORSE BECAUSE OF MY BOWEL BEEN STUCK TO MY WOMB.
Totally understand what you went through i was exactly the same, it was the most horrible pain I have ever had think its because the camera going up must have touched where the endo is on my bowel i was screaming and crying. I had gas and air to start but this didnt even do anyhting so they ended up sedating me and giving me pain relief just so glad they were so understanding - think thats the differnce with being referred to a private hospital.
Try not to get to down I know its hard but will hopefully all work out in the end xx
Hi really sorry to hear that...I've had 2 in a year...second time asked to be completely put under and they agreed no hesitation ( done privately ) best decision I made. First one wasn't painful I was just mortified by it all, especially as I knew what was going to happen. But going completely under was best it could be woke up with no side effects and home that evening. Best of luck .
I totally identify with this Twinny. PLEASE, if anyone is reading this and planning to have such an investigation, please request in advance sedation as a minimum as I had not booked anything at all and no pain relief was offered to me during the procedure - this was because my (PRIVATE) consultant's secretary assured me it was routine and there was no need to request anything in advance for pain relief! I was trusting her judgement and wrongly assumed that she was experienced in giving advice as it was her job to make the arrangements to book clients in for such procedures.
My, uterus and cervix are all stuck to my bowel (although no one knew this at the time I had my flexible sigmoidoscopy). I have to say the procedure was a HUGE SUCCESS and gave a clear diagnosis of advanced endo but it was the most alarming investigation i'd ever been through. I was not offer gas and air.
My consultant's secretary told me it would be 'mildly unpleasant' but nothing more and that I would not require any pain relief and so nothing was booked for me. I drove myself to hospital because she told me it would be over quickly and I could expect to drive home about 30 minutes afterwards.
When I got down to the procedure room the practitioner down there seemed surprised that I was not booked to receive sedation. I asked her what it would have done for me and she said "it alters your perception of reality but don't worry you'll be fine". After the procedure I was wheeled into the ante room to wait to be taken up to my room and I overheard two other patients confirm their request for sedation - this was their second time around and they were both making sure they were going to get it.
I was in such shock afterwards that my teeth were chattering and my cheeks and lips had pin and needles, I was shaking and my legs were heavy - I had to spend the afternoon recovering in my room. Take care of yourselves and discuss sedation.
I had colonoscopy years ago.no problem.but went for one last eeek & they had to stop ot!! I couldnt get enough PREP inside me due to a U T I.so i.m sitting here just started the vile PREP!! Praying it will work for tomorrow& praying its painless!!
