first gyno appt

so I had my first gyno appt today and I think I’ve left feeling abit more confused than when I first went in! 🙈 The doctor I felt was very vague, she did however put me on the waiting list for a laparoscopy but also told me it’s 50/50 if they’ll see anything which left me feeling totally deflated. I also had my bloods taken by my GP in February and they came back with a raised marker for my ovaries, she told me she didn’t understand why they’d taken bloods but surely if something’s raised then that a sure sign there’s something wrong even it’s not endo?

Anyone had a similar situation happen? I just feel abit lost! 🙈🫠

Hey there, sorry to hear you're feeling a bit lost! It can be like that sometimes at the beginning of your journey. I think they don't want to give any sort of diagnosis as it can't be diagnosed truly until the Lap usually. Even then, sometimes you can have Endo and they just can't see any on the day.

I found it really helpful to look through the NHS app when I first saw the gyno. It usually has all the referrals and results from anything you have. I was able to read my referral to gyno and see scan results which helped me know more. If you haven't got the app I highly recommend downloading it!

Hoping you get answers soon!

Hi thanks for messaging back.

I had a wee look for that app but I don’t think the NHS Scotland app is the same sort of thing, it just seems to tell you about medication and stuff.

I’m hoping that I don’t wait too long for blood results to come back and hopefully they’ll still be showing something. Although I was also told yesterday that if my bloods come back raised again I’ll be sent for a scan of my ovaries but if that’s clear then that’ll be it. Am I being crazy for thinking that’s not right? 🤯

Oh I didn't realise you was in Scotland. May be worth doing a bit of clicking around as it took me a while to find on the NHS App.

I had a scan of my ovaries which showed adhesion with my ovary and womb. Which then triggered further investigations. They shouldn't just discharge you if there is nothing as endo isn't always indicated on a scan.

If nothing shows but you are having symptoms you can quote the NICE guidelines for Endometriosis. You're on the waiting list for a Lap which is good but it is a very long waiting list for most I believe. It may be they can give you some medications to manage symptoms in the mean time whilst waiting.
