hi everyone,

Has anyone taken dienogest and had the coil at the same time?

Im 6 months post op and had the coil fitted during surgery but still in pain so dienogest has been prescribed.

Little bit nervous to be doubling up on hormones.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello, I have been on dienogest for 4 months now as well as having the coil. I’ve heard that dienogest doesn’t work for everyone but it’s definitely helped stop as many flare ups for me. You’ve just got to make sure you take it everyday at the same sort of time.

I am planning on visiting the doctors this week to ask them to check my hormone levels though as I think my mood may have changed since being on dienogest.

Yeah I’ve heard the same, im glad its working for you though. The mood thing is definitely something I'm worried about, having endo is a lot to deal with but add in the mental struggles and that makes it a whole lot worse x

Ive got mirena coil and been on and off dinogest since my surgery 2 years ago and it’s the only thing that stops my flare ups, my consultant will only let me be on it for 6 months at a time then I have to have a break and I’m in agony when I do. I’m about to come off them again for the third time and know what will happen, never had any side effects or issues whilst been on it x

I’ve had the coil for three years and after an endo diagnosis was put on dienogest along side. I’ve found it’s really minimised my flare ups and I don’t have periods so a win win I feel pretty much back to normal!!

I’ve found it’s helped me personally

hello. My consultant recommended either the progestogen-only pill (mini pill) or dienogest on top of Mirena. My GP said she couldn’t prescribe dienogest (I think because it’s relatively new - I’m not sure) and so she is putting me on the mini pill.

Just waiting for the prescription to come through to start.

It’s useful to see everyone’s experiences of dienogest. Thank you.

This is really interesting, I am in the same situation. I have the marina coil and have been taking Dienogest, it helped my symptoms loads but I did have side affects, my boobs killed, I gained weight and think it affected my mood. I freaked out a few months ago and stopped taking it. However I am now back to lower ab pain and very painful sex which is affecting my mood.

I’m really struggling to decided if I should go back on Dienogest or not, I feel as tho I’m in a right pickle about it, I worry the long term affects this may have on my body as well. I feel I can’t get any answers on what to do for the best.

I've been there!! Try an anti inflammatory diet if you can and don't take the additional hormones. I think age or babies semi sorted my endometriosis but I'm still in pain during ovulation and before my period. I also saw a naturopath and some of the natural herbs and tonics really helped too. Also a good silicon based lube can help!

I was in the same situation, however i have recently just stopped taking dienogest as it was affecting me badly in so many other ways. For instance my mood and depression sky rocketed and i was having horrendous hot flushes and waking up drenched in sweat every night. Even though my flare ups were slightly less when taking dienogest, i was still having periods so it didn’t do what my consultant wanted it to do… e.g stop my periods and therefor stop my pain.

(I still have the mirena coil)

I think be aware that the hormones can affect you in many other ways and it’s all about how you feel on them.

For me they make me feel horrendous.
