Anyone had MRI without contrast or buscopan?

Hi has anyone had a gynae pelvic mri without contrast dye and buscopan and it actually show your endometriosis or adenomyosis?

I had one this morning but they didn’t use buscopan or contrast due to my claustrophobia they wanted to just get on and do the scan without me backing out, which I’m glad of now as I needed the scan done.

hopefully this won’t affect my images they said it wouldn’t

I had a little breakdown prior to mine as the person scanning said it wasn’t needed, and when I’ve had MRI before I’ve been given it. I’d waited so long for the scan I got so stressed thinking it wouldn’t show anything/would be a waste of time.

The images were absolutely fine without the contrast and I was provisionally diagnosed with Deep Infiltrating Endo and Adenomyosis based on findings. This has since been confirmed during surgery.

As long as the person reviewing results has experience /specialism in endometriosis, it should be ok x

Thank you so much that’s really reassuring like you say I thought it was really needed to make sure the endo was seen and I’ve came home kicking myself for not asking for the dye or getting the buscopan when the buscopan was offered. I managed to get through the whole scan though so I just took that as a positive as I had a bad fear before of MRIs. Thanks for your message it helps me feel abit better about it now x

Hello I have had both MRI with and without contrast dye and biscopan. The last time they said they wouldn’t give me buscopan as I am on medication for high blood pressure. All was okay though and the MRI showed my adenomyosis. So please don’t worry 💛

Hi thank you for your reply, did you have the contrast dye in the scan you didn’t get the buscopan with? Thank you I hope it’s enough for them to see something 🙏🏼xx

No I have been to the scan where I had both, then the next one I had absolutely nothing. Both MRI showed my adenomyosis, so really I don’t know why they give us contrast dye and buscopan at times. Hope that makes sense, I’m on tramadol today and can’t think straight xx

Hi Thanks for your reply. I was worried they’d not see much without the contrast dye or buscopan. Did you have to fast before your scan at all?

I had an MRI with no contrast or buscopan. My showed what they suspected to be endometriosis and this was later confirmed with surgery. It depends on who reviews it. If the person reviewing it knows that they are looking for then it should be absolutely fine :)

Hi thank you I hope they find something. Did you fast for your MRI?

I honestly can’t remember I think I did have to yes. I had mine done and originally the first person looking at it said there wasn’t anything there. I didn’t believe that was true went to a specialist myself and they provisionally diagnosed me off the same MRI

I had buscopan they saw nothing despite the fact that I already had a biopsy on the adenomyosis and a hystoscopy. The plate they rested on my tummy made me feel so ill. I've just had a hysterectomy and I had a pouch of Douglas obliterated by scarring bladder severely adhered to uterus and a womb etc so covered in scarring they couldn't make anything out. So Consultants don't seem to have much faith in MRI scabs or that's what I got the impression of. Fingers crossed it works out ok. Xx

Sorry you had to deal with all of that, I might be heading for a hysterectomy too as I’ve had adenomyosis found on internal ultrasounds already 😨 I’ve read that mris can be hit and miss at the best of times in diagnosing or seeing endo and adeno anyway too. Hopefully you are feeling abit better now. I know what you mean about the metal plate they put across your stomach, when that went across me I started to feel abit claustrophobic hence why they didn’t bother with the buscopan injection as they just wanted me to get through the scan as I needed it xx

I had an MRI a couple months ago with no contrast. I was meant to have the buscopan but they didn't give it to me at the last minute because I get heart palpitations when I'm anxious. Apparently that means you can't have it. My MRI showed thickened uterosacral ligaments, endometriotic plaque, a nodule and adhesions. Still waiting dor my follow-up but everyone on here said that's essentially my diagnosis.

Are you being seen by an endo specialist? That's what makes the most difference.

Hi thanks for your comment, I got anxious when they put me in also that’s why they decided against the buscopan and didn’t get offered contrast despite my consultant requesting it on the referral. But they must have deemed it wasn’t necessary, I’m glad you got answers from the mri, I’m hoping I get some too. I’m seeing a surgeon who is part of the endo bsge centre in Edinburgh so hopefully they will help 😟

Oh that's good. You need a specialist to review the MRI really, as non specialists don't always see what's there. Hope you get some answers soon!

Hi I’m glad your mri showed stuff up, I was worried having no contrast or buscopan would affect the images I got yesterday. Did you have to fast before the mri at all?
