Severe abdominal pain in the morning only - adhesions

Hi, I have severe adhesions across all my pelvic organs and on my bowels and liver. No endo diagnosis but I am awaiting a second laparoscopy to remove the adhesions and see what's underneath. Over the last several weeks I've been waking up every morning with severe cramping on the right side of my belly button. Once I'm up and about and I *think* once I've been to the toilet it fades away. I have a telephone appointment in 10 days to discuss surgery plans (which could be any time from November) and I was going to wait to discuss this then but I'm getting a bit worried now. Could this be symptoms of bowel obstruction?

Are you under a gynae? What specialist is removing the adhesions? It would be best to ring the gynae department and ask the secretary (if you are under gynae) to confirm what this is. I have Endo and adhesions in my pelvis which cause pain before a bowel movement but I've also had 2 surgeries to remove the adhesions before and because it's Endo and they didn't give me a hysterectomy they grew back. What I can say is I've had these symptoms to varying degrees of severity for around 12 years and not had a bowel blockage as yet, although like you it does concern me. Good luck with your surgery and I hope you get better soon.

I have this when I am constipated-I have endo on my bowel. It can be painful as well to move my bowels but once I do the pain goes. I see it more as the bowel being a bit distended and that pulls on the adhesions. My sigmoid colon is actually ‘fixed’ at one point where it should be flexible.

If you are able to move your bowels even if it is uncomfortable then I don’t think you need to worry about obstruction. From what you are saying the endo is on the outside of your bowel, so cannot block it. It is a good idea to keep yourself ‘regular’ to reduce the pain though.

By all means talk to your doctor though for reassurance if you need it x
