Hello all, after multiple scans due to reoccurring ovarian cysts and general issues I have been informed by my dr that I have an endometomia i think it’s spelled somewhere around my left ovary as well as some other cysts and I have now been referred to gynaecology about this. I just wondered if anyone could tell me what I can expect to happen from here and if surgery would be likely due to this? Many thanks!

Hi! I believe that you are talking about an endometrioma, it’s a cyst full of endometrial fluid. On my first laparoscopic surgery they drained two cysts that were fairly big. After a year and a half I have 2 cysts again of 7cm each, just like tenis balls, and the aim is to fully removed them. You won’t notice anything as you’ll be totally sleep, they’ll cut them, drain them and if everything goes well remove the whole cyst. I hope this helps, it’s just my experience 🤗

Hiya! Yes that’s it, thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, I feel like once the gp asked if I knew what endometriosis was and I said yes that he figured that would do on the info side of things haha! Was it a long process to get surgery?

It depends how long you are on the waiting list for surgery, the surgeon should be able to say roughly how long it might take. Right now my waiting is around 6 months for my next surgery.

Hi,

An Endometrioma is indicative of Stage 3 or 4 Endometriosis so you should have a specialist MRI or diagnostic laparoscopy. I had a similar journey to you and they did a laparoscopy which found severe Endometriosis so they didn’t touch any of it, didn’t drain the Endometrioma, but referred me on to a BSGE centre for specialist surgery which is exactly what they’re supposed to do.
