I saw the gynae a few months ago and still haven't heard about a date for my laparoscopy. I've started thinking that I don't want the lap. I don't want to undergo surgery and have scars on my tummy only for the gynae to not find anything. Gynae said if it's not endo then it's hormonal.
I asked my GP if I could have hormone tests and he says they don't exist, but I know he's lying. I'm too exhausted now. Has anyone used a hormone test where you take the sample at home and then post it?

Yes I have done at home hormone tests which cost quite a bit, but my surgeon said they're useless because your hormone levels change everyday all the time. And if it's endo that's the problem, the hormones fluctuate too much. So measuring them on a particular day or over a couple of days isn't very helpful. Gps can do a blood test for hormones, but again probably not that helpful. I presume you've had an MRI? They could see the Endo on mine. So it was a no-brainer to get the lap. I'm 6 months past it now and the scars are hardly noticeable. I could wear a bikini For example. But it's a big procedure to go through, So I would ask for an MRI if you haven't had it already
Gynae refused to do an MRI. I asked him. He said he'll only do a lap and I'm too scared to have one now. I've heard of the day 3 (lh and fsh) and day 21 hormone tests (progesterone). I'm in so much pain. It's worse than childbirth.
MRI was never a topic roughly 9 years ago and they offered up lap, which I took. I don't plan to get another lap test, mainly because I don't want more scar tissue than I already have, so I ended up going a more natural route.
In terms of a hormone test, hormones definitely fluctuate however I think knowing your thyroid function and looking at your diet. I hope this is helpful to you.
Mindset, nutrition, all rounded wellness practices. It was a big decision but I'm definitely thankful I chose it. Happy to connect further on this if you prefer.
I don't understand this new approach regarding a lap rather than an MRI. I paid for a private MRI after a failed hysterectomy. You are absolutely right in that a lap will produce more scar tissue. It seems to be a growing trend towards more surgery (which could be a good thing as it will probably find the endo over an MRI) but it's very invasive and an MRI with dye, interpreted by an endo specialist would tell you a lot. If you can afford it I'd go private x
It's so bizarre they press for surgery rather than an MRI scan! I recently had an ultrasound and since posting this thread, I've received my results and been diagnosed with adenomyosis!
I had an MRI scan and they saw nothing yet hystoscopy showed 6cm adenomyosis and endo and they took a biopsy. Ultrasound scan showed both too.?? I'm waiting hysterectomy but don't know what to think either. 🥰 It's so hard to get advice/care.
my mri showed nothing, but my intra-vaginal ultrasound showed endo so that might be another route for you. The hormone route… my GP tried it , but like others have said, it can vastly fluctuate and vary. Scar tissue is scary and the lap causes its own risks but when you’re in so much pain it’s worth the external scar tissue at least, which when you look at post pics online isn’t that bad. It will fade with time and there are some superb scar fading gels and oils out there (I have a two inch scar on my face that has faded to almost nothing from a deep cut inside of a year with use of a gel and when I wear make up it’s virtually indistinguishable). I’d push for an mri with dye if you can (my hospital did a general one of my pelvis without dye) while the internal scan was better to produce results for me, which again may be a route you could push for them to take. I hope this helps - I know exactly how scary and horrible this stuff is to live with. ❤️🙏🕊️
