Hello all! I have officially given up trying for a baby now and have decided to have the mirena coil fitted again. My question is, has anyone had it fitted with adenomyosis and was harder to fit because of it? The first time I had it fitted was so damn painful and I'm just wondering if it'll be worse this time around? Also worried they won't be able to fit it but that's probably just my anxiety talking lol

Adenomyosis and endometriosis and the mirena
first off I’m so sorry you’ve had to come to that decision, it’s not easy xx. I’ve Adenomyosis and endo, I tried the mirena for over a year but unfortunately it proved too painful and I had it removed. However I know a few others who’ve had great success with it and it’s really helped the symptoms. I was in a lot of pain during the fitting but had my day cleared after the appointment so I could just get home, have pain relief and rest. My gp told me to take pain relief before coming for the cramping (which I did) but still found it pretty hard. I have a tilted uterus which didn’t help either 🤦♀️. I hope you get on okay and that it brings you some relief from these awful symptoms xx
Hello can I ask how you are managing your endo and adenomyosisis without the Mirena? I also have both and am struggling with the Mirena and keen to look at alternatives.
I’ve been on the 3 monthly Decapeptyl injection for almost 2 years now and just last month agreed to surgery, which will include excision of endo and hysterectomy for the Adenomyosis. The Decapeptyl has helped as I don’t get periods but you’re put into a chemical menopause so I take HRT to deal with the sir effects xx
Hi, ask your GP to refer you to have the mirena fitted under general anaesthetic, I did due to previous attempts where it was too painful, I was told my cervix is very narrow. I do have adenmyosis which was found after.
Hi there,
I’m sorry you had to go through all the pain.Im 50 and on my second mirena;the first fitting didn’t hurt that much but the second one two years ago did but was manageable with voltarel suppositories;I decided to go for a second insertion as it helped me the first time around
My first experience with the Mirena coil was horrific but only because the GP has not inserted it properly and caused alot of pain, so I had it removed.
The 2nd time I got it, it was done at the sexual health clinic and the gynae doctor used a scanner to ensure it was inserted properly. Since then I have had no problems or pain and I forget that I even have it.
I also have stage 4 endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibrous and PCOS.
You will experience some bleeding afterward, but that is quite common and takes a few weeks to settle. Afterward you should be great.
Whatever you do, don't get it done by GP, they are hopeless.
