Hi all, I'm just looking for some advice please?

I'm due to go in for a Laparoscopy next week, I've had heart surgery in the past but, I'm really nervous about this surgery due to complications in the previous surgeries. So I'm just trying to calm my nerves by being as prepared as much as possible. Does anyone have any advice, tips or suggestions for me please? Anything like what to take the hospital, anything I should be aware about regarding the surgery and following!

Thanks in advance ☺️

Hi,

I'm hoping my reply to someone else's post is helpful- if you'd like to have a read then click on my profile, go to 'replies' scroll down and look for the posts titled 'Pre-op appointment advice'. I hope some of that is useful, just saves me typing everything again 🙈 x

hun I would take loose fitting clothes sanitary products a small soft cushion to go inbewteen you and the seat belt when you go home take an eye mask and peppermint tea is good for the gas pain try not to take anything of value just in case things get lost I have autism so I took my loop earbuds to try to drown out the noise as hospitals are very noisy the eye mask to protect your eyes from the lights . Maybe take some adult colouring books and a book to read when you feel up to it. I was pretty tired I wasn’t very well after my operation kept being sick 🤢 as they gave me oral morphine but I can’t take codiene as that is morphine based as I get very sick . I nearly had to stay in for longer but as I have animals I wanted to go home as really don’t do well in hospital setting. My animals cats and bunnies which was a protective factor. If this is an exploration Lap then they won’t do very much they will look around if it’s found to be minimal to mild endo they will be able to remove and if they find chocolate cysts then they will probably do a cystectomy if it’s found to be deep endo they will put you on a waiting list to have it removed with further specialists like a urologist or bowel specialist this is so they can remove it by excision carefully. They will normally say and give you an idea if they find anything with a diagonostix lap depending on what they find and do they will tell you the next steps further treatment is done a bsgc center for a diagnostic you honestly won’t be under for very long. If the surgeon specialist knows your history about your cardiac surgery’s and the difficulties you were in they will make sure they take extra precautions hope this helps a little. Take slippers and dressing gown also xx
