Can an MRI detect superficial endo?

hey!

Just a quick question as I’m a little confused. I had an MRI last year which showed (as stated on the report) “deep infiltrating endometriosis and adenomyosis” this was on my uterosacral ligaments, pouch of Douglas, abdominal wall left and right. Which from what I’ve researched is severe endometriosis?

However, when I had my lap in November last year, the endo specialist said it was all superficial and she removed everything that was visible. She said it was stage 2/3.

So I’m a bit confused as to whether it is DIE or not, if an MRI would pick up superficial endo and if it is, could my surgeon have missed any deeper endo?

I had Endo on all those places so they couldn’t deal with it all at the time so had to reschedule and go back for a total hysterectomy. Then went on to have further excision surgery 2 years after and now on list again so I can’t understand how they can say superficial. How has the pain been since the lap?

So sorry you’ve been through that. The pain subsided (although not completely) for a few months but now it’s back with a vengeance. I actually have a telephone app with the specialist tomorrow that I’ve requested myself as the pain is back however I am so nervous about it, I know she’s probably going to fob me off and tell me it hasn’t come back this quickly 😫

The times I’ve been told that and it’s imagined etc but I finally have a gynaecologist that listens. Helps to write all symptoms down and give to them to add to your notes. Hope u have pain free days coming x

From my understanding there's different definitions of the types of endo. I think in this instance 'Superficial' means it sits on top of the tissue, rather than infiltrating into the organ muscle layers. But again from my understanding, an obliterated Pouch of Douglas and anything on outer organs and muscle such as the US ligaments is classed as severe endo and should be treated under a specialist team. I'd check that with your team and maybe read the NICE/ESHRE guidelines x
