Morning. All,

I had my surgery yesterday afternoon, I was in recovery by 5.30pm. I had the cyst removed, and endo removed from the pouch of Douglas she said that’s only where endo was also had dye through my tubes which confirmed my tubes are ok. I had a rough time after, I can’t stop being sick or keep water down. They eventually discharged me at 10pm and I came home to bed pain was under control, but this morning it isn’t, I feel like I didn’t judge it properly and didn’t think I would be in this much pain, also doesn’t help that I am due on my period, but I’ve been crying this morning already & I feel like I can’t even stand up straight. Please tell me this is all normal and I’m not over reacting. Thank you all x

So glad op went well and your home

Perfectly normal to feel like this don't be so hard on yourself......you need to rest as much as possible and just take things slowly.

Hope you feel better as the day goes on

take care

Hi ChloeL934,

Yes this is normal... you will find it extremely difficult to move around as your stomachs where all incisions have been made are sore. It feels like you have had a C section.. not that I know how it feels. But it the only way to describe it.

You still have the gas in your stomach from surgey which will take some time to leave your body. And you may become constipated which will cause you more pain so be very careful and conscious. Make sure for that u eat some prunes and try get a laxative of some sort to help soften your stools. As the pressure of constipation pain whilst u are recovering is un bareable.

I would rather give you a heads up to help prevent any of this from happening.

You literally also need to drink loads of water to flush your system.... and I felt it helped using a pillow against my tummy at all times.

Hope you feel abit better but it will take atleast 2 weeks for u to start feeling a little better. Please rest. Hope u have a quickly recovery xxx

Thank you so much.

I think I just read too many stories of people being up and about 2/3 days after, as I don’t feel like I will be doing that for at least a good week. I’m in a lot of pain today, and my stomach feels like it’s contracting so to speak, or muscle spasms.

Yes, I’ve got some laxatives at the ready just incase, I also feel scared to go to the toilet number 2 cause even going a wee hurts me! Thanks for being honest it makes me feel so much better that I’m looking at at least 2 weeks as I thought I was over reacting. Much love xxx

What do think about the actual diagnosis and treatment?

It’s not easy, recovery is different for everyone, I’d say it took at least two weeks to get over the op side of things, I started driving a bit after three.

Have they given you pain medication? If they just suggested paracetamol or ibuprofen ask GP for something else to have on standby, don’t put up with the pain. They’ll likely give you something for constipation as well.

I had already had a MRI so already knew about the cysts being removed & had already discussed any other endo to be removed along with the dye test, so everything went to plan & happy that my tubes are open that’s a big thing for me.

They did give me codine & paracetamol & I also have some laxatives too. Just didn’t expect to be in this much pain, and didn’t want to over react lol.

Also there quite abit of bruising is this normal xx

That’s good you knew what to expect, really wish I’d had an MRI first. Great news tubes were clear, much better for the future 🙂

I didn’t get any bruising, but had taken arnica before and after, this may have avoided it. I had expected there to be some as any cut and poking, treatment is trauma for the body. Constipation was the worst, saw out of hours GP who started the laxatives. She was a gynaecologist as well which was handy.

Hi Chloe,

Glad you’re out and back home!

This all sounds normal to me.

I’m 3 weeks in recovery now but I was shocked at how bad my initial pain was/ emotions and inability to stand at all. I also had really bad trouble going for a wee, to the point where I would cry because it was so uncomfortable and frustrating!! I was worried it was cystitis from the catheter they fitted during surgery. This passed though after about 2/3 days.

I also didn’t go for a number 2 for about 6 days and when I did it was really difficult and did hurt abit. That eased though after the first few.

I also had no appetite whatsoever and this has lasted about 2 and half weeks which I thought was odd. But it is slowly coming back now.

I also had emotions that were all over the place, I was crying all the time(which then caused pain so was a viscous cycle!).

Sending lots of love and just rest as much as you possibly can. ❤️

Thank you so much.

I think I kind of miss judged how painful it could actually be, as of course pain wasn’t too bad yesterday as they pumped me with morphine. But around 3am this morning I told my husband I think the medication is wearing off, this morning I got up to go to the toilet and could barely walk, my tummy feels so tight & I can’t stand up straight either, and as an over thinker like me I just thought oh maybe I’m over reacting. I struggled to go a wee first too, but eventually went.

You’ve made me feel better thank you so much ❤️

Try cranberry juice or tablets with drinking fluids which will also help.

After any op the body takes time to recover.

Also try not to take too many tablets as this will cause tummy upset, sickness etc

which you do not need on top as could cause more pain.

If you can try natural foods - prunes etc and ginger will also help.

Hope you feel better soon.
