I am due my 5th prostap next week. This last month I have noticed a lot of weight gain, I had no issues with weight gain for the first 4 injections. Actually I lost weight when I started it. I have been eating more this past month when I think of it, but I have been loads hungrier than normal. It is lovely to be pain free, but I can’t help but think of the long term side effects of this injection. My consultant hasn’t even told me how long I need to be on it for, I am guessing until I have the next surgery.
How is everyone else doing on the prosta?

Oh what this gives with one hand and takes with the other! Yes this can be one of the very common side effects. A bit of a pain when they will use any excuse not to give you surgery. My consultant tried that trick. He said your bmi is too high. I did 20-30 mins cardio or walking with weights exercises 6/7 days a week and lost 3.5st. I was on zoladex/prostap for nearly two years. Add on hrt, steroids, iron pills and a host of others and hello weight gain. Add on the physical affects of being unwell and we’re in a right predicament! I go online and do exercises from Improved Health. She’s a lovely lady who shows you many exercises sitting and standing advanced and total beginner. I had to show I was doing it to my consultant before he’d even consider a hysterectomy, he kept giving excuses as to why he was refusing surgery. He hadn’t bargained in me bleeding constantly for 7 months and collapsing from being anaemic. Hey presto surgery booked. Then then he called me three days after booking it with a date for 8 weeks later. Last October all done, had a medical emergency during it and nearly didn’t pull through, had a colostomy bag fitted to save my life, but I’m fighting on. You will crack this 100%
This is some journey MrsPaddingtonBear! Im in a similar place with my consultant just now, severe endo (bowel, bladder, ovaries, fibroids all involved!) but BMI too high for surgery but here's prostap and tibolone! I understand the inflammation etc needs to reduce before he can operate so its needed but i despair as to how im going to lose 3 stone! I will have a look into the improved health lady definitely.....the risks with hrt does worry me but i feel like its probably been over hyped
Hi I'm on zoladex and the weight thing is a rollercoaster. I'm month 4 and 51 so I've already put on the obligatory stone of menopause which I can never shift. However my hunger is sporadic on zoladex which makes sense as it affects your pituitary gland which controls your hunger hormones. Some days I'm starving and others I don't want much, but there's no consistency. This drug puts you in chemical menopause where your body puts down weight differently - it goes on your stomach and hips. If you haven't gone through peri menopause then this change that you see typically in your 40s can be a bit of a shock as you don't change anything but put weight on daily. The best advice I can give is to start fasting (Megan Ramos - Fasting for Women) is a great book. Also start weight lifting exercise. This changes your body composition and helps you to look better. It all takes time. Zoladex has stopped me from hemorrhaging every day so that I can get back to gym. Good luck xxx
Hi I'm on prostrap and no weight gain for the first five months, but over the last three I've gained ten pounds but i keep loosing three to four pounds too. I have got a lot of water retention so I'm putting it down to this, and coming off iron tablets, when i go back on the iron tablets the weight starts coming off again, really weird. Hope this helps sending you a big hug it's so frustrating isn't it x
I was the same from month 4 of Xolasex/Tibolone - I suddenly put on 1.5stone that went entirely to my stomach! I’ve been off it now for three months and the weight gain has not dropped off at all - it’s disheartening but I’m trying to focus on how much my body has been through and how confused the various systems must be, and just being patient and kind to it. Gentle workouts including resistance and strength have already given me more confidence. And buying some trousers that look good 😅
