Pelvic floor exerciser. ...

Hi all.

I just wondering if anyone has used a pelvic floor exerciser? And if so how effective they are?

I had a Dr's appointment with my usual Dr , about a week ago I spoke to the emergency Dr and told her that I could feel that something was hanging down when I was going to the toilet and that it was making it hard for me To go.

She did confirm that I have had a small prolapse of my vaginal wall on the right hand side which is what I have suspected.

She said that as I'm currently under the gastro and gynaecology team at the moment with ongoing tests (I'm currently doing a colon transit test) that they will need to decide which is the best treatment or operation for me once they have worked out what is going on with me bowel, which I do understand as I feel that my bowel could have caused this prolapse.

So anyway getting back to what I was saying, my Dr has given me some pelvic floor exercises to do and also recommend a pelvic floor exerciser because I'm in a lot of pain in my pelvic area with endometriosis and Adenomyosis and my bowel this prolapse is feeling really bad and I'm really uncomfortable. So I would appreciate hearing anyone's experience of the pelvic floor exerciser.

Many thanks

Jo xx

Hi

I purchased a kegal 8 device online and have used it for a small anterior wall prolapse with brilliant results. Their website has loads of really helpful information. I was also attending a gynae physio at the time and she was able to set it up with a personalised programme for me.

Hi.

Thank you for your reply. That was the one thar I was looking at how strange.

Oh I'm really pleased to hear that it worked well for you, all the reviews on there site said they were brilliant but I wanted to hear from someone reviewing away from the site because you never know do you! Lol.

I am also awaiting women's physio they came to assess me in the hospital.

Thanks ever so much I am going to order one of those now.

Sorry for all the questions, but did you find that improved your tummy?

I am only small a size 8 but sometimes my stomach looks like it doesn't belong to me it makes me so frustrated.

I've been doing the pelvic floor exercises 2 days and it looks like it has gone down already!! Which Is amazing because prior to me being unwell I was exercising all the time and no matter what I did it would sort it out, so I think that it must have been my pelvic floor causing this all along!!xx

Your pelvic floor muscle works inconjenction with your deepest abdominal muscle. If you exercise your pf you may find you are getting a co contraction of your abdominal muscle too which is why it's improving your tummy shape. Speak to your women's health Physio about this as a specific co contraction actually gives you a stronger contraction of your pf. xx

Thanks you for your reply. Had I have know that it would have done it ages ago? Because like I said I exercise all the time and I can never completely get rid of a slight rounded tum.

Thanks for replying xx

Hi. I'm seeing a pf therapist who said not to allow the abdominal muscles to contract as then you're not working the pelvic muscles to the best effect. If you feel the muscles contract above and to each side of the pubis, you're not working the pf muscles as hard.

Hi.

Thanks for your message. Are you able to do that not contract you abdominal whilst contracting pelvic. I feel how ever slightly I contract my pelvic floor the abdominal is contracting as well?xx

Yes but it's tricky at first. I thought nothing was happening but she assured me it was. It takes practice. There's some kind of wand you can buy that measures the contraction - if I haven't made much progress I'll be getting one

Some days I feel it more than others. I thknk it's about making the mind-body connection and that's hard. I mean, how often do you normally have to 'connect' with your vagina?!?!

Lol that made me laugh, I'm definitely not connected with my vagina, it causing me so grief not sure we can connect lol!

Anyway being serious my kegel8 will be here tomorrow and I'm hoping that it will sort it all out hopefully.

Thanks for your message xx

Let me know how it goes with the device...maybe it's a similar thing to the wand the therapist was telling me about.

I know what you mean about the disconnection with our bodies when they let us down! But maybe we should be doing our best to reconnect rather than have negative feelings. I know I sound a bit hippy but reckon there's something to it.

Feel the lurve and all that..

Yeah I will let you know how it goes I'm hoping that it will help.

No I agree with what you are saying completely. I reqlly believe in listening to what your body is telling you, if only we could get the Dr's to listen to us x

You want to see a urogynecologist as they are the trained experts of pelvic organ prolapse...I had cystocele, rectocele, vaginal vault prolapse, rectal intussusception and entrocele...I tried every thing to "fix" them without surgery...but mine were to large to notice a difference...we do want to have a strong pelvic floor, but it is just as important to be able to relax pelvic floor...so exercise is important so is resting the pelvic floor muscles...once you have a prolapse it is there...it won't get better, you can make the support system of it make it seem better - meaning the muscles around it supporting the prolapse... you can do things to stop it from progressing like exercise, not being constipated, not lifting super heavy things, try a pessary to hold it up...but exercise will only strengthen the muscles that support the prolapse...which may make the symptoms better and if the symptoms are not bothersome then I would not recommend getting the prolapse corrected unless/until they become problematic, but would work on not allowing them to progress further...this is an extremely hard health issue to deal with and I would only allow the best to work on me...a urogynecologist...I too did all the tests they are having you do about 10 years ago....I have now had both abdominal and vaginal repairs, with mesh and without...doing much better, but things will never be as they were! Good luck!
