Foiclles on cervix and red and inflammed

Hey lovelys so I went to the Dr's today and she done alot off swabs and then checked my cervix and said my cervix was red and inflammed with follices on it. She then said I need a second opinion on this so I'm referring you for an urgent camera test. I asked if she thinks it's cancer and just said I don't think so but need a second opinion. Also the exam was very painful while opening me up with the speculum. The thing I don't understand is when I was at gyno in November seeing the specialist I had no pain nor was my cervix red and inflammed and had no follices on it then. Please if anyone has been through a similar situation and it didn't turn out to be cancer please reach out. To me it actually feels like an infection as I had alot off yellow discharge inside me but they are being sent off to the lab xx

Infection can be a very common cause of a red and inflammed cervix.

Nabothian follicles are a really common finding that are completely harmless, most women have them to some degree as they form naturally as the boundary between mucus producing and more robust cervical “skin” moves under the influence of hormones.

There can be many causes of a red looking cervix that are completely benign (not cancer) eg cervical ectropion. I had a cervical ectropion and was referred to gynae by GP to check it out but all was well.

Hope you get reassuring news soon but try not to worry.

Aww thank you so much for the reply. You've really put my mind at ease. I definitely feel like it's infection as the speculum was very painful 😫 so hopefully it's that. She did say when the swabs come back next week she will have more off an idea off what we are dealing with. The waiting is awful. I'm an anxious wreak. The thing that threw me was her saying I don't think it's cancer as you were at gyno in November so fingers crossed she is right.

Did you have to get treatment for your cervical eroption x

Bless you it’s horrible waiting!

I had recurrent thrush that was actually responsible for my bleeding after sex and once that was treated the bleeding stopped so I didn’t need any treatment for the ectropion. Ectropion is again a completely normal thing (it’s just more of the mucus producing glands being visible rather than tucked inside the cervical canal, again due to hormones) rather than a disease so as long as no symptoms of odd bleeding it’s fine to leave it be.

Really hope you can settle your mind for a bit while you wait 💛

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. It could well be that, I'm actually due my period next week so maybe it is hormones causing it. I also have no abnormal bleeding which I guess is more promising. I suppose GPs don't want to take any chances and just like to refer us for second opinions to be safe.
