Advice on hormonal treatment?

hi all, 10 days post-lap here. Unfortunately ended up losing my left ovary and tube - had 4 endometriomas on it, 1 of which was 8cm, and this was all adhered to my rectum. So the surgeon said it needed to come out.

I’m waiting for a post-op appointment but the consultant said the endo will likely come back and I should think about some hormonal treatment. I admit I’m a bit resistant to the idea because I’ve never done well on the pill - my mental health goes even more haywire! Suspect a progesterone-based treatment might not be the best for me? Does anyone have any advice on how to consider best possible treatment that wouldn’t send me in a mental health spiral? Or that wouldn’t cause me to bleed for ages (another thing I’m worried about). Also would welcome any recommendations for books or resources on understanding your own hormonal profile and how it makes you feel etc ? Thanks!!

Hi, sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I understand you frustration with the pill! I think I went through over 10 different types, all of which influenced my mental health badly.

The only hormonal treatment that's worked for me would but the Mirena coil, it's also stopped my bleed almost completely. I can't say the insertion is nice and there will be some pain and bleeding, but they last for 5 years.

If you're worried about the amount of hormone in the device there is another option I tried before the Mirirna which was called 'Jaydess' it's got a lower dosage of hormone but only lasts for 3 years.

Hope this helps. All the best to you and I hope you find a solution!

I've had the Mirena IUD in for a year. Insertion was very painful and it took perhaps 6-7 months to settle in (I had cramping and odd bleeding throughout) but now I barely bleed on my period and period pain is almost nonexistent. It's different for everyone but I much prefer it to the pill, which gives me brain fog.
