I had my operation 5 days ago. There isn't really any pain (& it's nothing compared to period pain!) but I still feel really tired & dizzy if I do too much. How long until you felt the dizziness go away in particular? I understand the tiredness part as my body is healing!
Thank you x

Personally I felt dizzy on and off for about 3 days post op, but definitely felt weird in other ways for longer. It took me about a 8-9 days to be able to move anything like normally - I wasn't really in pain (like you my post op pain was minimal and absolutely nothing compared to period pain) but one side of my abdomen was very tender and I could feel pressure/pulling inside so moved about very slowly and gingerly for that time - as a result I didn't really move much at all and didn't really have an opportunity to overdo it! One thing I wasn't expecting was that I had nearly two weeks of post op brain fog/focus/concentration issues - post the operation I felt absolutely loopy and out of it for the first couple of days and then my ability to concentrate was really diminished for nearly 2 weeks - I could watch trashy TV or browse the web but I really struggled with anything that needed more focus than that.
Could it be side effects any drugs you've been given to take post op, or did you start hormones or have a coil fitted? I was prescribed gabapentin post op because they were worried about nerve pain (having removed some endo that was right on a nerve) but I came off that as soon as I could because I definitely experienced unpleasant side effects from taking that.
Tbh if you're not happy with how you're feeling it's probably worth reaching out to your doctor/the hospital for advice (hopefully they gave you a contact number?) at the very least they can reassure you or make a decision if you need any follow up checks e.g. blood tests for infection/bleeding or check your blood pressure etc.
Best of luck and hope you have a smooth rest of your recovery!
Thank you so much for your reply. Makes me feel a bit more 'normal' and you're right in everything you say! My concentration is definitely rubbish too. I'm just so used to being up and active, I knew this would be the part I'd struggle with. Thank you x
I didn't have any dizziness at all but it usually takes about 6 weeks to get back to normal if you had a lot of excision. I lost a lot of blood in my op and needed iron supplements for two months. It could be that you have lost blood and are a bit anaemic. You will feel tired for a few weeks and it is really important to listen to your body and take things easy. I could barely walk from the bathroom to the bedroom at first but I just walked a little more each day gradually building up until I was back to normal. Don't do anything heavy or you could loosen sticthes inside. A girl who had her op the same day as me was really hung ho about her recovery and was carrying heavy bags and travelling by public transport etc. She ended up back in surgery as her stitches split and caused a lot of bleeding and she ended up taking much longer than me to recover. Listen to your body and while you are tired and dizzy take it easy. If you are concerned about the dizziness go to the GP and get checked out but rememebr you have just had a big operation you aren't going to be 100 percent recovered in a week or even a month.
Thank you, I've definitely tried not to overdo it & definitely haven't lifted anything heavy. A shower still feels taxing enough at the moment! Interesting about being a little anaemic however, I will see how I feel in the next few days but might be worth a call to the doctor. Thank you x
yes it does take a while to feel strong again. I was weak until all my stitches had melted and l had finished giving myself my post op injections. Please be patient with yourself, l was 77 when l had my final operation so maybe l was more capable of thinking mostly of myself in that time.
Hope you soon begin to feel stronger but please be patient with yourself,
