Hello. I am wondering if anyone experienced migraines while on combined oral pill? I am into my third month of taking Rigevidon but noticed that I started suffering from migraines. They wake me in the early hours (3am, 4am) and I can't go back to sleep. Spent all weekend in bed - never had such a suffering (apart from Endo pain). Any advice or experience would be hugely appreciated. x

Yes, I was on the combined pill for 8 years and started with migraines after about 3 but didn't connect the dots (neither did any doctors) so I underwent CT scans and god knows what else because they were so horrific until one day my mum suggested coming off the pill and low n behold they stopped🙃 My advice would be to see your GP about it because they tend to be concerned if people get migraines on the pill due to risk of blood clots and strokes babe so please go and see someone about it just in case xxx
Thank you very much for sharing your experience-that is helpful. And how awful you had had to go through all that.. My worry is that I take pills for treatment (pain) management and without it - I am kind of stuck..
Hiya ! if you're experiencing Migraines with COC method - it would be highly advisable that you stop taken COC as there is a high risk of Blood clots that could look to a stroke or heart ache, Especially if youd had an immediate family member of the age <45 that has suffered with any heart problems .. have you considered a progesterone method for pain ? . Have a look at this useful website for other methods that may be suitable sexwise.org.uk/contraception & fsrh.org/standards-and-guid...
hi, I was on the pill for 4 years and in the last 4 months of taking the pill I suffered with awful migraines to the point I couldn’t look at car headlights as it would set me off. Doctors ignored me but I came off it and that instantly helped them. There is a higher risk of blood clot and stroke if you are on it and get migraines. If you are on it for pain management then try looking at one of the progesterone only pills as I was always told it is the estrogen that is the worry with migraines but progesterone only is fine. Definitely go back to the doctors though
Hope you get it sorted
Hi, I'd suggest speaking to your GP. Migraines can put you at higher clotting risk on the combined pill but my understanding is only if you're getting migraine with aura (taste/vision/speech changes etc). I've suffered with them since I was 11 & was eventually taken off the combined pill at 22 after going temporarily blind twice & being unable to talk. You could look at progesterone only contraceptive & see if that helps instead - the Mirena coil controlled all my endo symptoms but still caused me a lot of headaches. It's going to be a bit trial & error. If you change your contraception & are still getting migraines you could ask about acute treatment (triptans) or ask about trying a preventative (sadly also lots of trial & error!)
