Uterosacral Ligament removal ?

Hi, hope everyone is doing as well as they can.My question is do they remove the Uterosacral ligament In total hysterectomy,I had my surgery back in June everything including cervix removed .Whilst in hospital recovering I mentioned a distinct pain in left sided area ,I mentioned it to the consultant again in September and he said I forewarned you of nerve damage and sent me of with Amitriptyline, it didn’t take it away .I had my second appointment yesterday and before I even explained my symptom he said I think you need to be seen by musculoskeletal specialist I was more than complexed at the way he jumped in with it.When I come home I doubled checked my histology report that I requested in autumn and on it it says body structure Uterosacral ligament ,so now I’m thinking is this why I have the side pain it runs down into pubic & groin area .Can they remove it ? As it’s listed with all the others that were removed 🫣

Hi

I don’t think mine was taken out, they removed Endo from it. You’ll have to message the consultant to be certain.

I’m left with potentially nerve damage, I’m still investigating, but take Duloxitine, it works better for me than Amitriptyline. Diclofenac suppositories are great for inflammation in the pelvic/lower abdomen area.

Be interested to know if the did remove it.

Hello. This is interesting as I too have constant pain in exact same area of left side ever since I had last excision of stage 4 and ovary and tubes removed (haven’t had hysterectomy yet). I know my Endo returns very quickly, especially on ligaments plus the scarring from disease and previous surgeries. Sorry I can’t offer much advise just reassuring to know we’re not alone ❤️

Hiya when I've read up about hysterectomys I think they use it to support your pelvis I don't think they would remove it. I have uteral sacral involvement with my stage 4 endo and they plan on removing at much as they can from it but plan to leave any endo on it behind to not damage this ligament. They call it nerve sparing surgery. I think it must be a very important ligament supporting a lot of the pelvis region especially If they are leaving endo behind in my case to stop any further damage. Hope that helps. All the best and get well soon x

Hi, thank you for your reply . I hope your surgery goes well . I had a nodule on the ligament the histology report says Structure of uterosacral ligament (body structure) it’s in the list of everything else they removed ,which is why I can’t understand how or if it was removed . I’m being treat for nerve damage as he forewarned even before surgery that I would end up with nerve damage , it’s difficult to understand as he will not answer me when I have questioned it .If they leave Endo behind on yours would it not cause it to grow back , I have been made to understand over the years that a tiny spot left will fuel it to grow again , I hope that’s not the case for you .

Hiya thank you that's really kind. It sounds like he definitely needs to clarify what he has done you shouldn't come out of an operation confused with that happened. And unfortunately yes they have already said they will have to leave some behind feels like a waste of time having an op but itching for some well deserved relief!
