hi everyone,

I received this letter today to explain what they found in my op. Do I need to push to see a specialist? I also can’t have some contraception due to migraines with aura, so Im confused about what hormonal contraception I could be on in the future? Just looking for a bit of advice on this letter, has anyone got the same diagnosis?

Thankyou

Rosie x

I wish they were not allowed to write such vague letters? It doesn't sound to me that all of the endometriosis was removed. He notes it was on your bowel and pelvic wall, and he took photographs of it, but likely did not remove it? I would probably call to clarify.

The gold standard would be to excise all of the endometriosis, send that to histology, which would confirm that it was endometriosis. This doesn't seem to have happened. Is your pain now good after surgery, or do your symptoms persist? I would personally 100% ask for a referral to a specialist, just explain that your symptoms are not under control.

With my migraines with aura I was told to avoid the combination pill (you need to avoid estrogen), and stick with the mini pill only (progesterone only). However, this isn't a cure and came with a lot of side effects for me personally. It may help slow down the return of endometriosis that has been removed, but you do need to ensure it has all been properly removed first in my opinion. Xx

Thankyou so much. It really isn’t clear is it! I will call them up again and ask to be put forward. So I’m on my second period post lap and to be honest it’s still as bad but they said it could be for a few periods. Thankyou for your reply. Xx

My understanding was that in complex cases where endo has caused fusing and adhesiones to the bowel you are referred to a specialist centre and have follow up where a bowel consultant and a mdt (multidisiplinary team) are consulted.
