I’m currently waiting for an gynaecology appointment that took me 6 weeks to get becsuse my GP were useless when it came to my consultants letter to them (he wrote he suspects it’s endometriosis when I saw him about bowel issues!) but I haven’t received an appointment time and the hospital they’ve referred me to will not be equipped to deal with that so it will leave to another waiting list!
I want to go to Spire in Liverpool but I am not sure if the initial consultation will be worth it!! I won’t be able to afford many procedures but I’ve had consistent sharp pains in my ovaries for the past few weeks and I’m worried there are cysts but I don’t feel like the GPs will listen to me! Will an initial consultation about my issues be beneficial? And does anyone have any experience with sharp pains in the ovaries consistently for a few weeks?
Thank you!!

Hi, sharp pain this could be due to endo and you should ask for a ultrasound scan. Seeing a gynae consultant is a good idea to help speed up waiting. Need to ensure the pains don't get worse as it could be cysts on or around the ovaries twisting or rupturing which is very dangerous. Sooner you discuss with specialist and get a scan (even via gp first and see consultant about results after) the better. All the best.x
Hi - not Liverpool but I just had an appointment with a Spire Consultant in Edinburgh and in my opinion, it was 100% worth it. For comparison, I had an NHS gynaecologist appointment the same week and the two appointments were night and day!!
The NHS gynaecologist asked me am I sure its not just a pulled muscle (I am a gymnast and have been my whole life!!) I left the appointment feeling like I had been banging my head against a wall. I was confused and felt a little crazy, like maybe I was wrong?!
The spire consultant asked me so many questions, took notes, relayed all the info back to me, assured me my pain was valid and that I ticked all the boxes for a diagnosis. Gave me so much information about endometriosis and laparoscopy, actually physically examined me (something not a single person has done during all the other NHS appointments I've had.) He explained the payment process should I choose to receive any further treatment with him, which didn't feel like a sale at all, as private healthcare can sometimes seem transactional.I left the appointment like I had been given a little piece of my soul and sanity back. He really took the time to make me feel comfortable and listened to.
I say go for it - you can't put a price on your health.
