Just wondering of anyone has any experience of this. I went for a first private assessment for IVF yesterday. I am 36 years old and live in Northern Ireland. I met the BMI parameters (which I was please about!) however the issue came with the vaginal scan. I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis in 2017, since then my ovaries have become stuck together (I was told this last year). I have had no further treatment since. I am on the NHS waiting list for the last few years. I was also told last year at another private consultation with an endo specialist that my tubes were abnormal but patent. Yesterday I was told yes my tubes were abnormal and there was fluid in one. I was also told I had a 5cm cyst on my right ovary and a fibroid in my womb. However, good news wise it seemed like I had a good number of follicles in both ovaries, more on my left. Very much a mixed bag of news. I was told by the specialist doing the ultrasound that getting to my ovaries to collect eggs may be difficult because they are kissing. I was already concerned they may not offer me IVF because of my ovaries. I am now even more worried after being told this! I am getting the results and a consultation next Friday. I was hoping to do at least 1 round of IVF before getting surgery. I am aware that any surgery can decrease fertility. Does anyone have any experience of this? Or any positive stories. Feeling worried and low ☹️

Private IVF Assessment - Worried about results
Hi there, I had a lap in October 2023 after two rounds of IVF. I also have severe endometriosis, with cysts on both ovaries, had a large 8cm cyst between my ovaries which was removed and also had fluid in my left tube so the tube was removed. The surgeon also made my right ovary more accessible/mobile as part of the surgery on request of my fertility clinic as they had issues accessing my right ovary for IVF. My AMH went down slightly after surgery but not significantly. And none of my follicles were damaged during surgery. My clinic were happy to try two rounds of IVF before surgery and I got two embryos from the second round (none from the first), but the quality was poor so neither resulted in pregnancy. After two rounds I felt that surgery was the right choice. I'm about to start my third round soon. I know it's a difficult choice, there are a lot of factors to weigh up. Sending you support and wishing you all the best with your treatment xx
I did an egg collection cycle to preserve my fertility 6 months ago. My consultant was amazing and I truly believe if you can trust your fertility team, (have confidence they will do everything within their ability to help you), that is the best thing you can do. All these things you mentioned do sound scary, but allow them to do the hard work for you and explain the process. Best wishes with it all.
Hi TheBeachBabe thank you. I think its the waiting to find out at the next appointment what they suggest that we do. My backup up if they can't do a full ivf cycle is to do an egg collection one like you had and freeze them then try to go the private route for surgery. I know surgery will potentionally damage my fertility further and it would be comforting to have that fall back.
Hope everything works out for you. Thank you for sharing.
hey!
I did 3 rounds of IVF back to back and got two good quality embryos. We haven’t transfer the embryos yet as during the scans they found multiple fibroids in my uterus. I have an appointment on the 8th to remove the fibroids and apparently 6 weeks later we can go ahead with the implantation. I also have stage 4 endometriosis with a chocolate cyst in my right ovary. The private clinic I’m working with is absolutely AMAZING and my consultant is my superhero 🦸, I trust them so much and it helps me a lot! When everyone else told me I couldn’t get pregnant and needed a hysterectomy he assured me that I could get pregnant and he is trying his best. So, keep your fingers crossed and trust your consultant if he is good! I wish you all the luck and success in your IVF journey
Bubble-Z thank you for sharing. Its comforting to hear that they managed to get 2 good quality embryos. If they are willing to do a frozen cycle with me I hope I can get similar! I haven't met any of the consultants at the fertility clinic yet but I hope I get one who is as supportive as yours 🤞 Thank you and all the best with your treatment.
Thank you so much, I’m sure you’re gonna be fine as I have so many issues but could get 2 healthy embryos. Just try your best to find a good consultant and if they couldn’t get any embryos from the first round don’t loose hope! The first round of my IVF was not successful as they didn’t know which protocol would work best for me. I was on a high dosage which didn’t work as my ovarian reserves was so low. So, for the second and the third rounds they put me on a lower dosage which worked well. If you have a low ovarian reserves a high dosage of hormones is likely to cause issues and have an impact on the quality of embryos and the number of eggs. Anyway, good luck and be positive! Your positivity and mental health have direct impact on the outcome of your IVF! Be happy and try to do things that you enjoy during your ivf treatment. ❤️
