Can hip pain be related to endometriosis? And excruciating sharp lower abdominal pain before passing stools be related to endometriosis?

Hi,

My question is 2 fold.

I’ve had 3 surgeries. 2 with Nook doctors. I don’t have endo in the bowel but on it which was shaved off.

I was wondering if anyone can share some light on hip pain and endometriosis. I’ve always had some sort of hip pain, usually dull aching pain, especially after period of inactivity. But over the last few years have got worse, regardless of how much stretching I do when it’s bad, I do it twice a day. If I do good amount of stretching in the evening by the time I get up in the morning it’s painful again. But there are also periods of time when it’s not so bad. Can this be caused by endo? If so how do you get it diagnosed? And is there a way to treat it?

Also I sometimes get excruciatingly painful sharp lower abdominal pain in the morning before passing stools. Usually gets better after passing stools. Anyone have experience of this and could it be due to endo or more likely to be IBS?

I’ve been trying to conceive for a number of years now and concerned about these symptoms. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Hi Lola, I get really bad hip pain which is caused by ovarian cysts. Mine is the other way the more active I am the worse the pain.

I also have endometriosis and in the last year found out it was in my bowel. I too get really bad pain passing stools and wind and it eases afterwards. I sometimes wonder if the cyst is near or pressing on my bowel.

I also struggle to conceive which I blame the ovarian cysts. Doctors always told me they would go on their own but they haven’t after 5 years their just getting bigger so I’m now awaiting a laparoscopy.

I think you maybe need to go back to gynae. Hope you get sorted soon 🤞 it’s awful when your struggling to conceive. I’m lucky I have one but always wanted another.

Good luck xxx

thank you Jako1982, yes I’ll definitely ask my GP to be referred back to the endo team. I’ve already had 3 surgeries so don’t really want to have another surgery if I can help it… good luck for you lap too xxx

Hi Lola

In my experience I'd absolutely say it's related especially if they have found endo before. I'd recommend trying to see a specialist as endo is so difficult to diagnose. I had severe endo show up on mri and when I went to specialist they said its not that bad but when it went to a proper mdt meeting they said they could see uteral sacral disease and invasive rectal disease. And I too have exactly these symptoms every morning and it's painful and extremely hard to manage getting to a loo. I get pain in my hips and thighs and lower abdominal pain. Maybe try and push for an mri because it can grow back. I have an implant and I'm on a hormonal pill called dienogest which suppresses estrogen to stop the development of endo while I wait for surgery it's very helpful for me. Maybe speak with a gyne or gp and try some more hormonal methods to try and get pain and periods under wraps. I also have a referral to the colorectal team to try and get some control over my bowel movements and pain this is in June if you have any questions I can ask pop me a message im trying to think of some myself

Anything you need give me a shout

Take care

Annabel

Thanks Annabelle for your reply. I’ve been asking for an MRI for so long but keep getting fobbed off and going round in circles with GP. I don’t have pain when passing stools as such but before passing stool if that makes sense? Very sharp pain then need to run to loo. I don’t know if I have Endo and IBS but will ask GP to refer me back to endo team and hopefully will get to the bottom of this. Will push for MRI from endo team as well. Did you find it was hard to get them to do an MRI?

Good luck with your referral and the colecteral team. Going through IVF at the moment so I can’t go on permanent hormone suppression. Is the suppression helping your symptoms? I’ll send you a message if I think of any more questions. Heads a bit full at the moment as I’m the middle of IVF xxxx

Hi Lola!

Good to hear that you're already using Nancy's Nook, for anyone who wasn't sure what Nook doctor meant lol. They are so good for decent information and recommendations for decent gynaes!

Yes hip/pelvic pain is a symptom of endo. Like others have said mine gets worse with more movement, so on bad days I avoid doing anything more than light stretches and gentle walking around. Try not to overdo things, are you doing stretches which are good for endo pain? There's a free one that I use on YouTube by a lady called WellWithHells, she does an endometriosis specific yoga session that's AMAZING for stretching your pelvis and lower back. She has a lovely voice too, very soothing! For my back and pelvic pain I started using a walking stick at 23, but now it affects both legs so I've had to get partial weight bearing crutches too (they go to your elbows not under the armpit). It's been so much better getting around! Really helps having a walking aid, because if you're having a bad day you still have some control over your leg giving up on you lol.

Pain passing poop and wee is also common yes! Lots of people think this is just limited to pain in your back passage, but cramping pains and stabbing in the belly are also common with endo. I've also had period blood in my poop and wee, but my gynae dismissed it so I'm messing around to find someone who actually knows what they are doing lol! Few and far between sadly. Hope we've all put your mind at ease! Xxx

thank you crybaby for your reply. Do you know why it causes hip pain? Is surgery the only answer? Reason being I’ve had 3 surgeries already. So sorry you’ve suffered for so long with this and using crutches from such a young age.

Thank you for the yoga tip, I’ll look it up. I have to do the stretches to get some relief otherwise it’s too painful if I don’t do the stretches. But the relief is only temporary.

My cramping pain is before passing stools. Excruciating sharp pain starts and I have to run to the loo. I don’t have pain in back passage. Once I pass stools it usually better. What a minefield this is.

Wish doctors would do more about this awful disease. Xxx
