Anyone using crutches?

Hey everyone! Hope you are all good?

I was wondering if any of you use crutches to help walk further? I'm currently using a stick, but both sides are now impacted since my lap not just my left side. My belly is so much worse, sooooo much pulling and I end up doubling over after about 15 mins and holding my belly.

I've come across some really funky crutches so I'm thinking of buying 1 to start and getting 2 if it is better than my stick. Just hoping for some stories of endo warriors using them and having them help! Or not, bad stories just as useful!

Thank you! They cost quite a bit so I'm not sure whether I'll get them yet or not lol I think I want to see some opinions first 😊 xxx

I do when I travel because I struggle with long queues and stairs badly, otherwise since I drive I don’t usually need them thankfully

Thanks so much :) is it crutches or a stick that you use? On the rare occasions when you do use them do you find them helpful? Xx

I use crutches or a stick at home but when I leave the house I need a wheelchair.

Oh love I'm so sorry! That must be really hard, is it electric or one of those that you have to push? I'm debating a mobility scooter for longer journeys, but it's so expensive. So I'm thinking a pair of crutches could help me get further than 1 walking stick. Do you find the crutches easier for getting around the house? Or the stick? Xxx

hello,

Try to speak with your GP about walking aids. Hopefully you can borrow it from NHS for free. I am thinking I will need crutches after an operation. Not sure if hospital will give you some after discharge.

Definitely not using NHS ones because they are super ugly lol. I plan to buy some funky ones from Cool Crutches 😎 so they suit my aesthetic. Already using a stick and GP knows about that, I have a special one that lights up. Just wanting to see if crutches would be better pain wise than my walking stick :) GP is useless tbh they just say to try stuff and see if it helps, and I've no gynae anymore...would have to wait until July to speak to Pain Clinic consultant. The endo patient community probably has more helpful advice than my GP in all fairness 😂 I only ask because my pain has started affecting both sides of my body since my lap, so using one stick doesn't help with the left side which then takes all the weight off my right. Feels like if I use crutches I'll be supporting my lower back and pelvis properly, more so than a stick anyway. Xxx

Haha that's the only thing making me stop and think it through lol! I have paid out a load of money for my two sticks from NeoWalk, so I'm reluctant to spend even more on crutches if they are not much different (on pain) to using a stick lol. But I have a lot more walking to do in this next month or so because the person who drives my youngest to school is going to be out of action for a bit. So I'll have to walk 2 mile a day probably, or at least 1 mile (0.5 there and another 0.5 back). So I need proper support, I'm usually in pain and get really dizzy on the way back 😥 and that's using a stick, so my thinking is that crutches would help me walk further. Xxx

NHS crutches aren't pretty, but you could use them first to see if they help before spending on different ones

I don't want to use something like that because they stick out like a sore thumb and you get stared at, people looking you up and down to see what could be wrong with you. I had it for years with my walking stick, but getting one that was pretty and suited how I dress was a game changer. People often pull me over to compliment my stick now, as well as the odd stare which I roll my eyes at. I don't want to go back to people staring, even if it is to try it out. I've just bought them and I'll see how I get on, I just wanted to hear if anyone had any positives or negatives from the perspective of having similar pain issues but it doesn't matter lol.
