I’m after some advice please, I have been struggling with a constant battle backward & forwards to doctors for around the past 5 years. It would be a very long story to go from the start..
But in January 2022 I came off the pill due to my period cycle being so messed up and low moods. Ever since this my period cycle had got even worse & the pain I’m now experiencing on my period is horendous! I’m currently waiting for a referral for an ultrasound currently been 18 weeks but the doctor mentioned to me could be endo & wondered what everyones symptoms were & how they knew?

I have been going to the GP for over 10 years with my endo symptoms. Mine included; painful, heavy and irregular periods, a lot of pain when needing to have bowels open, diarrhoea all the time, back pain, brain fog etc…
Don’t be surprised if they don’t pick anything up in the ultrasound. I had mine and didn’t pick anything up. I had my laparoscopy 5 weeks ago and now I have finally been diagnosed with endometriosis.
My biggest worry in this is fertility as all I’ve ever wanted in life is to have children and it’s my biggest worry that the doctors not getting to bottom of it is going to really affect this and it makes me so anxious
I know it can be so worrying. So my consultant has said most of my endometriosis is on my stomach wall, bladder and bowel so should not affect fertility. Everyone is different. There are 4 stages of endo so I would just wait and try not to worry (I know that is easier said than done) 💛
hello Cat, it is unlikely that ultrasound will pick up anything. Go back to your GP and ask to be referred to an endometriosis specialist gynaecologist. Keep a diary of your cycle, bleeding flow and pain levels whilst waiting for an appointment. When you see the consultant, ask for a laparoscopy so that they can diagnose endo properly. (They should take biopsy and send to lab). If you do have endo, then the have to excise it. That is the only way to remove it. Good luck x
Unless your ultrasound is being done by a specialist/at a specialist centre don't expect anything to be picked up. Only a few sonographers have the skill to see endometriosis/adenomyosis and even then they only scan the uterus and ovaries. So check where you are being sent for one.
More women on this forum have had their endometriosis/adenomyosis diagnosed more successfully by MRI including paying for one privately.
it’s so sad that the referrals take so long. I’ve been in a similar situation as you. Back and forth to the GP for years. I was on the pill for about 7/8 years which did manage my cycle/ symptoms slightly better but I came off it to try for a baby. That lead to full blown agony for a year when we were trying. Finally got pregnant and the best 9 months of no symptoms but then after that the pain has been 10x worse.
My main symptom are ridiculously painful periods and ovulation, very heavy bleeding, rectal pain when on period/ when trying to go to the toilet almost fainting. my GP finally sent a referral to gynae, I’ve been waiting since last august to be seen. I did go for an ultrasound (including transvaginal) but nothing showed which my GP said can be common in endo.

Sorry you’re going through this. It took 15 years for my diagnosis. Started with very heavy and painful periods, the pill helped for a good 10 years but as I was having periods endo continued to grow. The pain gradually got worse and would feel it in my upper thighs, lower back, abdominal/pelvic and rectal pain. Found it difficult to stand due to the pressure.
I had ultrasound, didn’t show anything. I think this is to check tubes and ovaries are in the correct place. Then had a laparoscopy and MRI that confirmed endo. Ask your gynae consultant for a dye test to check patience of your fallopian tubes, this will give you an idea of fertility.
Hope you get seen soon and get answers either way. I would chase up your ultrasound scan, maybe ask for a cancellation.
