Got the iud put in 3 months ago. Been in heaps of pain (codeine everyday) and bleeding since. The doctor had told me it will take 12 months to stop and be normal again because of endo. Everyone I’ve talked to so far said their pain lasted no longer than two weeks. Just want to know if my doctor is being a lie guy or not xx

Hi I had the mirena coil placed after my last lap and to be honest I was like you, constant pain & bleeding which lasted a year. After a year things seemed to calm with the bleeding still lots of pain. Fast forward 3 years later and symptoms have flared up again so bad I’m on tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding…again. Good luck on your journey I hope you have more luck than me
hey! I'm sorry about your pain. Unfortunately, I removed mine after a year. I got the teen version of Mirena because I have a small cervix and don't have penetrative sex and it was the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life. I couldn't walk properly for a month and bled almost everyday for the entire year, still having pain throughout the year. I don't know if this was directly related to my endo, but I certainly didn't have a good time and ended up removing it. I'm sorry this isn't a silver lining story, but I truly don't think nearly enough research has been done to confirm that this is a safe and advisable procedure for people with endo. Oddly enough, the most effective intervention I've tried (and I had to have an ovary and fallopian tube removed because an endometrioma destroyed them) has been Evening Primrose Oil and a multivitamin. I'm still in pain but it's reduced ever since I started that. I've also been trying to finish a book called Heal Endo by Katy Edmonds, maybe she might have some tips that can help you, too. Wishing you well as you try to figure out what works for you!
hi I have the mirena in its the second one I have had. The first stone wasn’t In very long maybe like a year but because it moved the dr only just touched it and it came out. This one I have had in for nearly 4 years. I have severe deep endo. For me having the coil in was far too late I think. Was only diagnosed this year at 37 years old but I had been suffering for a hell of a long time. I think I was in my late twenties when I first tried the coil. But I had to have it as was literally in the kernow doc every month as the pain was so bad couldn’t walk after they gave me pain injection I was able to walk out of the hospital. I had to see gynecology the first time in my mid twenties as they found a cyst on my ovary at 5cm but then as soon as I saw someone they did an internal and said I was fine. But really I wasn’t. So for you I think having the coil earlier on will stop the growth of endometriosis to some extent. Whilst having the coil it took ages for the bleeding to settle and now have found out if you have the Covid jab it effects your periods and makes you have a bleed.. I think they say your periods should settle down after 6 months. I don’t get heavy bleeding anymore as such just break through. Which I think with endo on the coil is normal. Hope this helps. It did. Take some. Pain away but I have severe pelvic pain and lower abdominal pain all the time still. I think the coil helps people in different ways.
hello! Think everybody reacts different to it. I work with gynaecologists who say it should be MAX 6 months to settle. I had mine inserted and after 1 month no issues.
I've just had my mirena coil taken out after having it in for 6 months cos I couldn't get on with it. The amount of bleeding decreased, but I was bleeding 20+ days a month. I also had excruciating headaches (agony just to function), really painful breats, etc. So, while the coil stopped the monthly flooding it brought up other, horrible symptoms. I honestly think it depends and if different for everyone. I felt pushed into having the coil to show I was 'willing to try' to do something to help... then the dr was really rude when I went to have it out and tried to brush off my symptoms and concerns.
Seriously, what kind of treatment causes you pain and doesn’t work for the first year?? Ask your doctor if they’d accept that themselves. Personally I would just ask for it to be removed. I only lasted a month and some of that was trying to get someone to remove it.
