I started heavily bleeding on Desogestrel after 4 months so I asked to try Provera. The Dr would only give me a weeks worth, enough to try and stop the bleeding for my smear test next week. I thought you could take it for longer than that at a lower dose as an alternative to the mini pill.
Does anyone know if the Dr is right or if only gynaecology can prescribe it for longer use?
Thanks for reading x

I have been on Provera tablets long term, but that was initially prescribed by gynaecology. Your GP may be unwilling to make a change to something originally prescribed by gynae ( which I presume the Desogestrel was) or may want their advice. In theory they should be able to prescribe anything that is an approved medicine,
You may need to contact Gynae yourself or via your GP to ask for an alternative to the Desogestrol.
I found the Provera, which as far as I remember was 10mg x 3 daily, problem free though eventually it became less effective and I started bleeding again. That was after about 2 years I think.
