can you drain an endometrioma without surgery?

Does anyone know if it is possible to drain an endometrioma without surgery? I am thinking because I had IVF recently and during egg collection, they used an internal ultrasound and a fine needle to aspirate the follicles… Surely if one of my follicles has turned into an endometrioma, they could drain it in exactly the same way? I am not keen for further surgery, but my endometrioma is apparently 4 cm which the consultant said, was small, but to me that a large balloon of blood, just waiting to go wrong! Perhaps I am being overdramatic… (PS, this was seen and measured on an internal ultrasound, not through surgery)

A couple of consultants have described endometriosis as a bit like concrete, very thick in consistency, so possibly difficult to aspirate. Also they need to clean out the lining thoroughly if possible.

mine is currently 6cm, still considered not a priority 1, just a priority 2. Have you had a gynea consult? Surgerical removal is usually the only way, but if yours is quite minor, it might be a long way off, symptom management is key at this stage -also a 3 myg diary might help consultant further. Urine, bowels, food, pain, mentruation etc

yeah the gynae consult was where I discussed the options but forgot to ask about draining without surgery. I said I wasn’t keen on more surgery unless the endometrioma was causing me danger and he said 4cm wasnt dangerous?

It can only be removed directly I think if you drain and don't remove it will regrow.....I had mine removed via laparoscopy (keyhole) when they checked my tubes and had a look around in general.

it might regrow but I’d much rather draining if it avoided me surgery. I found surgery traumatising. I did see it might not even work But if it worked but needed to be done. More often I’d be okay with that!

it took me 9 weeks to be back at work after surgery and 6-12 months to feel normal each time.
