Mirena coil?

I have a laproscopy scheduled soon and my doctor suggested I get a Mirena coil placed in. May I please ask if anyone has had this coil placed in? What was the removal procedure like?

Hi, I had one fitted just under 12 months ago when I was having my lap, unfortunately it's not worked for me so was removed before Christmas, felt like a pop but the period after wasn't great heavy bleeding and in pain, but my friend had hers fitted and has worked wonders for her so everyone's different to if it works etc. I gave it 9 months as requested by the specialist and we have moved onto the next stage of treatment, worth talking to your specialist if you are worried. Hope it all goes well!x

I have had them over a 17 year time period. They gave me my life back, made it pain free for years and heavy periods reduced to 3 days, requiring only a panty liner. Removal is like a smear, the last one I was asked to cough and it comes out.

I’ve only had mine inserted and removed during procedures under anaesthetic so can’t really comment on how removal is otherwise but I have heard many times removal is better than insertion. Hope it works for you, it was the best decision I ever made.

I had mirena coil fitted about 2 years ago - was pretty life changing in terms of pain management but unfortunately for me, my bleeding persisted and I’m due to have a hysterectomy in a few weeks time. The fitting was a bit uncomfortable but after a few weeks everything was fine, but I know it doesn’t work out for everyone- it’s certainly worth exploring
