I have been suffering with various things for some time now, heavy periods, painful bowel movements during periods and severe period pain.
my doctor gave me the implant which has helped but I have been concerned I have something like PMDD as well because my mood before a period is so terrible.
Anyway, my main question is about pain in my ribs before and during a period. Dur to the implant my periods aren’t regular but when I have one I get pain a bit like severe indigestion on my right side in/under my ribs. It isn’t constant, it comes and goes and is acute for a little while then will go.
Is this something anyone else has experienced in relation to their cycle at all?

I would get pain in what felt like random locations when my flare ups would happen.
My recent laparoscopy confirmed that it was endrometrial tissue in places it shouldn’t be. It would become adgetated and give pain in thoes spots whenever my hormones flipped the endro into gear. Using the bathroom hurt some days and that’s because it was located on my colon and fused my bladder to Zones when it shouldn’t be.
My endro tissues became agitated in what felt like random days especially when I was on contraception.
My biggest endrometerosis symptoms were - bloated belly (endro belly), painfull urination, painfull bowel movements, pain when walking during flare up days.
All of these symptoms were worse when I had hormonal contraception and I like yourself am a very mean moody person on contraception! (The least moody one I have found is norethindrone 5mg) but ofc talk to your doctor.
i would make an easy read Callander of your pain (I colour coded mine) that you need to show to your doctor as it makes a lot of difference in them suspecting endrometerosis (takes a very long time to diagnose as people can be so different)
Thank you - I have bought a diary to properly start recording everything as well, but I know all the symptoms I’m getting before a period.
I am going to ask for a different contraceptive and a a different anti depressant and see if things change. I know whatever road I am is going to be long as well, sometimes I think not knowing if a symptom is relevant is the hardest thing!
i have always had rib pain and dr's always dismissed it as 'growing pains' but now i know it's my cycle
I also have the same pain on the right side and indigestion and have been tested for gallstones and had a US on the upper abdomen and found nothing there. but still pain there the week before and during my period.
interestingly I had gallstones and had my gallbladder removed, but can tell this pain is different to gallbladder pain (you can get phantom ones even after it’s removed)
I’m tracking everything now, but same as you I’m sure it’s related to my cycle!
