Could anyone explain to me where gp could determine that I have vitamine D deficiency from this blood test. I can clearly see that my numbers are to high on 2 occasions but I can't see anything about low vitamin D Thank you

Low vitamin D diagnosis?
They can't.
What you have is a full blood count.
You haven't been tested for any of vitamin D, vitamin B12 or iron deficiency.
Unfortunately GPs are told not to do any of these tests unless you have clear signs and symptoms due to the expense.
I have to do my yearly tests privately.
Sorry I should have added over a decade ago I was one of the few people who had very low vitamin D.
It took me a year to diagnosed as I didn't fit the perceived ethnic profile where deficiency was common at the time so my GP didn't listen to me.
(I was actually diagnosed by some one who was newly qualified, after that GP threaten to kick me off his list for repeatingly turning up with signs and symptoms. I later managed to change practices and get diagnosed with a few things.)
Within 12 months loads of people around me were being diagnosed as we had 2 years of rainy summers.
Myself and others with very low levels in my area were told the NHS couldn't afford so would not pay for our repeat yearly tests that were advised. We were told to pay for it privately. Others in different areas were just ignored if they asked to be retested.
Within a few years due to the cost of testing lots of people, the NHS advice changed so everyone should take a low level (so completely useless in my opinion) supplement between October and April.
So don't be surprised if your GP surgery is resistant to testing you and just tells you to supplement.
My GP says that unless one is taking a Vit D supplement it’s very likely that they are Vit D deficient. Although, he does test for it. Pregnancy multivits have Vit D.
Hi,
Is there another part of the results?! This is the haematology section looking at your red and white blood cells. Which is to check for anemia( low red blood cell count or low haemoglobin/ iron etc) , inflammation/ infection etc ( if white cells counts are abnormal) .
Did they also run a biochemistry panel? Have they specifically requested vitamin D to be tested?
Generally speaking when I have been to the GP and reported tiredness etc they have incorporated vitamin D into the blood panel. Maybe ask your GP specifically if this has been tested as well and if it is possible or if not why.
Sorry not aware of your full symptoms or circumstance but would always say asking them directly the reasoning and potential for missing something if not testing for it can be useful. And asking if bloods are reported fine ( they will have the full report ) what would they suspect is causing the symptoms.

Hi, I’ve always asked for Vit D, although huffy the first time, GP did do it. Came back low. They don’t prescribe it and I’m sure many are low without realising it. Vit D is more a hormone so it’s not surprising that with hormone conditions it’s out of balance.
I’d imagine you’ll have to retest soon because of the two out of range, ask to add Vit D, B12 and 6, plus hormones to check levels of those as well.
