I’ve got diagnosed endometriosis and have had a recent flare up - massive clots, flooding etc
I’ve been to the GP and have had routine blood tests and they’ve found I have low vitamin D, high calcium and a raised Parathyroid level.
I know thyroids affect hormone levels and so I’m wondering whether either a thyroid issue has flared my endometriosis or my endometriosis has caused a thyroid issue.
Does anybody else in the community have a similar experience/diagnosis?
As per, there’s little research about Endo relating to ‘other’ issues!
Thanks

Endometriosis and other autoimmune conditions go hand-in-hand because of the high level of inflammation in the body. Your so right, there is hardly any research out there on this. I have read about this in a book written by an Endometriosis Specialist's, not sure if I'm allowed to mention names...but it's by Dr. Iris Kerin Orbuch.Autoimmune thyroid is apparently very common alongside Endometriosis, I have it myself. I was diagnosed with it long before the Endometriosis.
May I ask what your course of treatment has been for the thyroid issue? I went to the GP for a really bad Endo flare up and came away with a thyroid issue - I have vitamin D tablets for the interim whilst I wait for some scans on my kidneys. They originally took my bloods to check for the pregnancy hormone (I was flooding and clotting so badly A&E thought I was miscarrying) and to check if I was anaemic and they found the low Vit d/high calcium/parathyroid levels!
I will do some research this evening - I live near the Derby endometriosis clinic and I’m waiting to get a date to see the specialist there (could be 2 months to a year apparently)
I was put on eltroxin for T4 levels and my vit D was low also, so I take a good quality vit D with K2 oral spray. Diet wise I try to get plenty of selenium and zinc from Brazil nuts and leafy greens to help thyroid hormones and reduce the auto-immune attack against my thyroid. I'm in Ireland, our health system is terrible. No Endometriosis clinics here and I had to pay an eye-watering amount of money to get my thyroid checked properly after years of pleading with my GP to get thyroid antibodies checked.
Anyways, hope this info helps. Vitamin D will defo help.
I think you need to see this more as chicken and egg. Low Vit D is associated with autoimmunity and that can include some Thyroid issues. Known associated problems with endo are also thyroid problems. There is a useful recent study around endo and autoimmune/immune issues by Stephen Palmer on this subject from Baylor College USA which is worth a read. For good background information try Katie Edmonds Heal Endo on Amazon.
thanks!! My gp doesn’t seem to be aware of any links and I’m a long way away from seeing my nearest gynaecologist/endo specialist so it’s really useful to hear other people’s experiences.
send them the links and give them a copy of Katie Edmonds to frigging update their knowledge… with a signed understanding that they’ll be drilled on it next time you’re in. No bloody excuses 😂 am sorry for it.
