The stages are hard to explain fully, I'll try and be basic with it but I'm not a doctor so please don't take my comments as gospel. I don't know if in the UK stages are used, I think they just say mild moderate etc. Pain is not relevant to your stage either, so you can be stage 1 and feel intense pain and stage 4 and have no pain. It is very personal!

Stage 1 (minimal)- just a few superficial spots of endo.

Stage 2 (mild)- more implants of endo, but still only involves the uterus.

Stage 3 (moderate)- many deep implants, filmy adhesions, may be outside of the uterus. Likely cysts present too.

Stage 4 (severe)- severe implants that are deep, thick adhesions that may stick organs together. Large cysts on one or both ovaries.

This website is quite good at explaining it, but it seems to vary from site to site sometimes. Your consultant will tekl you how bad it is when you have your lap. So try not to worry too much right now! forthwithlife.co.uk/blog/en...

Again I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong with some of my definitions, please always seek proper medical advice.

I was the same when I first started doing research, it isn't very clear if we do actually use stages in the UK. But they definitely do everywhere else, USA and AUS most prominently. Maybe our stages of minimal, mild, moderate and severe match up with the foreign numbered stages? I will have to ask my endo nurse and see if she has any info :) if I find anything out ill try remember to update on here xxx
