Massive anxiety flare just before period is about to start because I am soo worried about the pain.

So I have suffered with Endo and Adeno symptoms for like past 15/16 years and unfortunately am no stranger to being in pain because of it.

However, over the last few months / periods, the pain has become soo much worse...which I didn't even think was possible. (I'm not sure if it is because of taking additional hormones for IVF treatment).

Anyway, the fear I get now before my period is about to start is soo overwhelming because I genuinely feel like "my god I don't think my body can go through it again". I have codeine and mefenamic acid but they aren't very helpful.

Does anyone else experience this and have any tips on how to reduce the anxiety / fear.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately because I am going through IVF I can't take the tranexamic acid because I need to have they bleed to reduce my lining and I can't be put on any medication to stop my periods etc because of the same reason. That's why I think I feel even more anxious about my periods than usual because I actually cannot do anything else about them right now. My fertility consultant is asking a specialist to look at my recent scans to see if removing the adenomyosis will help with my fertility and pain so that is an option. I do have a tens machine but not got any of the pads but that's a good idea I'll look for some online now. Thanks again

Hi Lasa, just wondered about your comment saying adenomyosis can be cured... I've always read it cannot. I don't know if I've missed something. I would be grateful if you could share how adeno can be cured, bearing in mind I want to preserve my fertility. Many thanks in advance

Hi jade ,it can be cured after u had kids if u want to have a hysterectomy also been told that it disappears at age of 50, but try stay positive cos I was told with endo and adenymosis esp adenymosis be hard to conceive I had no IVF but I still conceived x

I second using a tens machine. I have a portable one that is for periods and it has had such an impact on me. It does completely get rid of my pain as I experience a lot of pain underneath where obviously I can't put the tens machine but it does get rid of the pain in my lower adomen.

Having IVF treatment and especially taking the hormones for it can make endo massively worse. I'm not convinced that this possibilty is pointed out to people before they start IVF. IT wasn't to me but my sister knew it was a bad idea and she warned me off then I read up about it online.

I'm really sorry but I don't have a way to tell you how to deal with the anxiety unless you count suggesting backing out of the process obviously your periods will stop if you do get pregnant so that would help with the pain.

Maybe you could focus on that if you get pregnant that pain from periods will stop for 9 months . I don't know how much longer you have to go on IVF but you could focus on the pain being temporary. Heat pads and hot water bottles can help, naproxen helped me with th epain but not sure you can take that while undrgoing IVF.

Can you contact whoever is doing your IVF and ask them for advice? They will probably have the best knowldge of this.

Good luck

Hi Jade, sorry youre going through this. I have both endo and adeno too. They are such a pain especially when ttx. I am also a fellow ivf-er. I don't have any advise, just wanted to send you best wishes. Also double check your advice on removing adeno as I don't think you can without destroying your fertility chances.

Yeah, you can't get rid of adenomyosis or my doctor would have done it. It's because it penetrates into the actual muscle wall of the uterus, making it bulky. You can only get rid of it by removing your uterus which is obviously not an option if you want children still. It's the monthly lining of your womb deciding to grow into the uterus wall instead :/ I have a Mirena coil which is shrinking my uterus though, but obviously that's not an option if you are trying for kids. Anyway, hope you are able to get pregnant soon, then you can go back to all the things that will help.

I’ve found the tranexamic with the methanamic helps, the methanamic on its own doesn’t help me. I don’t have any advice re the anxiety but know how u feel xx

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. I get a lot of anxiety due to the pain as well. The thing that helps me the most if having the pain meds that I need to help me when I'm on my period and I also take diazapm for anxiety.

You may need to go to a&e when the pain is really bad and they might admit u on gynea ward where u can express that ur pain medication does not work at all... They may give u a referral to pain clinic or they could give u some Oramorph (Morphine Syrup) that ur GP can prescribe to u around ur time of the month to make it easier for you.
