I had a laproscopy 2 years ago and now awaiting it again. They have put me on the injection to bring on menopause & HRT. I rang today to see the wait for surgery it is going to be 50 weeks. They are going to extend the injections until I have the surgery even though the injection is licenced for 6 months. My question is.. I am now having increased periods every 2 weeks.. I have had weight loss nearly 2 stone since May.. no appetite at all.

What will happen after the injection is stopped.

Ultimately you would hope to return to 'normal' at some point after stopping, whatever that is for you, although it can take several months. The decision to have the injections for any period, including well over the recommended length of time, is your decision and yours alone. When taking off license they must discuss this in detail and record your consent. The long term risks are simply not known and there are anecdotal reports of permanent effects. They should be given only for pain relief so if you get relief from nothing else you need to choose between the benefits against unknown risks. With the long delays for surgery it is a very tricky situation.

Hi D2594

I'm concerned to hear that you've had significant weight loss since May and no appetite. Eating well and maintaining a healthy body weight is key to coping with endometriosis or indeed any condition. In the first instance I'd suggest you speak to your GP to see if they can refer you onto a Nutritional Therapist who specialises in this area of female health. If not, I would recommend you visit the British Association of Nutritional Therapists website at bant.org.uk. Many Nutritional Therapists offer a free discovery call so you can chat to them about the issues you are experiencing and find out the ways in which they'll be able to support you.

Wishing you all the best x
