Advice for my partner

Hello ladies its nikki's partner here Matthew. I think nikki's going for her operation soon after waiting all this time but I guess why I'm here is I'm going to be her full time career while until she recovers and with this kind of operation I don't know what to expect with the recovery process that can take up to 6 weeks. Ive done this before for her but not with this new condition. Just some basic information on how your recovery after the operation you had. Last time it was only 1 week with nikki so any warning sighs to look for and any positive signs too. I plan to keep nikki as still as possible to let her insides heal but have no idea of the damage. So from any scale of information into care I could do for her just so I can be aware of when or not to call. But hopefully all should settle nicely. Many thanks nikki's crazy man

Everyone heals differently I guess, I've had a few infections after laporoscopies (I've had 4 procedures) and I felt really sick, tired, hot, and the incision sites were red and leaking. The stitches should be dissolvable so no need to have them removed. I've always took the dressings off on the 2nd evening and gave everywhere a very gentle wash. She will probably need you to hold on to and to help get washed. Clean towels and slippers and loose nightwear will need to be ready for after that. Straight after a laporoscopy you have shoulder pain which is trapped gas from them filling the abdomen with it during the operation. Try and have some anti wind remedies near the bed when she gets back along with pain relief and lactulose (its hard to go the loo after the op as your muscles are sore from them going through them and the pain killers slow everything down). Patience is a massive thing for me as its frustrating enough not being able to do things yourself let alone having someone else get frustrated with you at the same time. Lastly I'd say she will sleep a lot of the time but when I was recovering I loved watching something on the ipad or the TV together with my partner of an evening so I didn't feel abandoned up in the bedroom on my own. Go by her pace and how she feels and you'll be fine.

We're be in the frontroom together so nikki will be ok that way. Plenty of horror movies I think. I'll look up a few things to help with her discomfort as I know what's its like to be unable to do anything after my accident. Thanks for the tips I think we should get through with no problems. Silly things like pillows on each side to keep her on her back. Ive put in a shower but a few things to make it easier should be easy. I suppose it all depends on the stage for a fast recovery

Hi Matthew

It's great to hear that you're able to give Nikki so much support after her procedure. If you haven't already read it, we do have a document on our website about what to expect after having a laparoscopy. You can download it from endometriosis-uk.org/your-l.... Just click on the link 'Laparoscopic Surgery for Endometriosis'.

Hope the procedure went well for her!
