Management treatment for post endometriosis surgery

Hi all, I had endometriosis surgery last week and was discharged with the pill. However, I am not too keen on taking these due to the long term risks. Therefore, I am booked in to have the mirena coil inserted later this week however, again I am unsure about how I feel about this. Has anyone been in a similar situation who would be happy to share their thoughts and experience please?

Hi, I hope your recovering well. How are you feeling? I’ve got my first diagnostic lap on Sunday and feeling anxious. I’m still waiting a diagnosis but they fitted a mirena last year to help symptoms, while I know it helps some with symptoms it didn’t help me. The mirena was a last option for me because I can’t take oestrogen and have low mood on progesterone only pills. Unfortunately my pain was pretty severe and more frequent with the coil. I gave it nine months, reduced bleeding but increased my pain and as soon as it was out it was instant relief. Again I’m not sure it’s endo I have but they tried it to see and unfortunately it wasn’t for me. Did they carry out any excision or ablation during your surgery?

They found endometriosis on both my ovaries and uterus and managed to remove it successfully. Although nothing showed on any of my scans prior to the surgery.

Hi. I had my surgery fitted 2 weeks ago and had the coil placed in at the same time. I think it’s too early to know how my body will react to the coil but the one thing I’ve noticed is that I’m getting more spots 🙈 and I barely got spots before.

For me, I chose to go with the coil to hopefully try and minimise risk of the endo growing back / cysts recurring / just to give as much of a shot as possible to help with fertility.

Will let you know how I get on with it over time!

Hello, I hope you’re recovering well. I was never given the pill on discharge but with my record of contraception it’s not agreed with me. I’ve been on the injection till I had my operation as I needed to relieve some of the symptoms but now I am detoxing it out of my system.

The marina Coil is something I am never having again. This is due to my coil being contaminated and I had the start of a nasty infection. But I was one of those rare cases for it to happen to.. I wish you the best with it

Hello 👋🏻 I’ve had ablation and removal on an endometrioma, tangerine sized on an ovary in 2006. I then had an Gnhr analogue injection for 3 months and I felt wonderful, so much energy! Then I had a Mirena Coil inserted and these gave me my life back from 2006 to 2018. My very heavy, week long periods changed to using a panty liner for 3 days!!!

I never looked back until I got pelvic pain in 2018. That’s 12 years of a normal life.

Also, it’s worth the 5 minutes of discomfort for insertion so I didn’t have to take the pill, had a good form of contraception. I have had 4 inserted and removed. Sometimes you can feel the strings but they are deep within the vaginal entrance and so this was a non issue for me also. My now ex husband could not feel them during penetrative sex and so I want to squash that one too.

I have had a bit of cramping after insertion but the mind plays a bit part of this. I needed it to be a success and thought positively throughout. Any problems I asked my GP surgery, the nurse helped reassure me.

There are only positives for me on this topic. People go on and on about demanding pain meds before insertion. But bloody common sense of a Seasoned EndoWarrior means you take pains meds like a big girl before you go and get some heat on your belly for 20 mins at a time if you cramp up or use a BeYou Period patch.

I think just roll with it, expect the best and use your own common sens. There will be some discomfort but we, as EndoWarrior’s do hard things. We got this!

Yay for The Mirena Coil, it gave me 12 years of no symptoms 😃

I had excision surgery in September 2021 and coil fitted at same time. I am having fortnightly periods which I must say are lighter and pain is generally 1 bad day instead of 3. It has its pros and cons. You can atleast try and remove if not for you x

Hi I have endometriosis I’m waiting for lap sugery to be honest in the past I had bad experience with coil I had bleeding periods that would last 2 weeks so much pain anemia the only thing that was good was weight loss but I guess everyone different I would talk to Gyno and talk about other options as I have refused coil told them I’m not having one hope it all turns out well for you
