Being Proactive

I was disappointed to be given a follow up appointment in July for my endometriosis… At this stage, I had decided on surgery and informed the CNS of this. I didn’t want to wait until July to then be placed on a waiting list for surgery… So I reached out to the consultant.

Surprisingly, I was called by one of the doctors today and they gave me a surgery date for October. I will be attending in July still, but to be consented for surgery. They will also give me a gnrh injection to attempt to shrink the endometriosis beforehand. Finally I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I would strongly encourage people to be proactive with their healthcare… The system is not perfect, I know this from both my experience as a patient and from working in a hospital. If something doesn’t seem right, please don’t be afraid to ask the question. Every hospital also has a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who can advocate on your behalf and support you. Please take advantage of them.
