I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Tomorrow will be my second gynaecologist appointment after nearly a year of constant cancellations. I was asked at my last appointment to take the pill which I didn’t at the time due to GPs not being trustworthy but I’m on it now and it hasn’t done a thing to help me. I want to be put forward for a laparoscopy, which has already been recommended by my new GP. I’m just scared of being dismissed like I have been a million times before. Being told it’s all in my head even though my psychologist says it definitely isn’t and I know that too. It’s an NHS appointment and from reading other ladies accounts, these seem to be where most of the push back comes from so it just makes me nervous.
If anyone could sprinkle some advice or words of encouragement that would be amazing.
Big love always

First of all has your gynaecologist got a special interest in endo which means having extra training?
A diagnostic lap isn't the initial gold standard for diagnosis. At the previous appointment did the gynaecologist conduct a thorough clinical exam and/or arrange an ultrasound?
If you tick at least one of the symptoms listed in the NICE guideline the next stage would be an ultrasound but the expertise varies. You need someone who has the skill to look beyond the uterus and ovaries - this is stage 2 training. If deep disease is found you would then be referred to a specialist endo centre. If not you are then given an option of medical treatment (which has already failed) or a lap. But again it is important that they have training in endo.
The best preparation is to read what they should be applying so the NICE guideline and the first section of the ESTRE guideline that covers diagnosis:
Thank you so much! Yes I’ve already had 3 ultrasounds and all came back clear but I’m still in pain. I’ve never actually seen the gynaecologist physically due to covid and everything has been over the phone which I think hasn’t helped. He’s supposed to be a top gynaecologist but I’ll look more into him due to what you’ve said. Thank you so much for the information I’ll give it a look for sure. Thanks for your time I really appreciate it !
Hi there. Not sure how far you have come since last post but my Gp and first gynae consultant did not pick up endo on ultrasound. Only MRI did-and there was also adenomyosis.
Saw a specialist gynae this week and he picked it up with internal exam and ultrasound-told me it was on bowel as well!
