Laparoscopy denied
WHAT!!!!!!!!! I can't believe they would do this. Could you speak to your GP about this?
Having a raised BMI increases the risk of complications during surgery. Also makes the laparoscopy more difficult.
I am aware that a higher bmi is more risk for surgery, but other than contraception pill I am being offered no further investigation. The consultant said "there isn't anything else she can do".
They could do an MRI scan, unless that might be affected by extra fat around the area they look at. But then if you're going to need surgery to remove the endo you'll need to lose weight anyway. Also, ask about Zoladex which is more effective against endo than the contraceptive pill.
I don't know I have got endo for sure. Consultant said sounds like could be but going on pill was only option.
An MRI scan does show up endo in most cases, so maybe push for that and if endo is seen then ask about Zoladex.
Just a thought but if it is endo then a low-carb diet would help and that might also help you lose weight. But I would suggest taking professional advice as you have weight problems as it may be too much strain on your body to go on a strict diet. Your GP could refer you to a dietitian.
Hi Amz2022, I'm so sorry to hear that! I have a high BMI too, but call me crazy but if u have a high bmi u cant take the pill anyway! Only the mini pill 🤔 I'm on decapeptyl untill my surgery, I think the nhs is like the lottery it all depends where u are, I had a laparoscopy 3years ago and my bmi was high! I would push for another opinion! Good luck and I hope it all works out for u xx
Thanks. X .Going back to Gp and see if I can see different consultant. Was in office less than 5min. I know my bmi in high, but surely that doesn't mean I should just have to put up with pain and not know what's going on in my own body.
Unfortunately the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago x
Hiya love, this absolutely makes me furious. So I have a very high BMI infact I think its about 50. My weight was always mentioned, but I said I'm fully aware of any risks and it's me who signs the consent form.
You need to see your gynaecologist again or ask for another one.
For me to even been the "normal " weight range I'd be waiting for ever. I advised I've never been small and that I didn't want to just be palmed off with medication.
So I was put forward for one, unfortunately my weight was more than it has ever been. But you have a pre op assessment and any other risks are identified there too. My anaesthetist on the day was lovely, I do find myself apologising for my weight and saying I know your job is harder, but its not impossible. I spoke to the surgeon too on the day who mentioned my weight but was really good about it, because they can be awful. She said it's just the risks are higher which I said I understood.
Don't be disheartened it's like your weight gets mentioned and then we just back off. But no your symptoms are real and it doesn't matter whether we are big or small there is something wrong that needs to be investigated.
Good luck and don't take any 💩 xx
I’m on zoladex for 6months and was told that when I go back in May I need to get my BMI under 30 or the won’t put me down for surgery. My consultant did explain the complications of the extra weight and I have a lot of scar tissue so it makes the lap a lot harder. I know it’s hard to hear but it’s actually given me a bit more a push to get the weight off.
I struggle with exercise because of the pain but she advised me try swimming which I have been and feel better for it. Xx
This is crazy, maybe try to advise that when you are in pain this makes it very difficult to be active xx
