Hi all, so in about 5wks I'm have a total hysterectomy, I know I will need pads but which are the best ones to use/take in with me? Any advice would be great, thanks xx
What are the best pads?: Hi all, so in... - Endometriosis UK
What are the best pads?
You might not need them at all - I'm 6 weeks post op from a total hysterectomy and I haven't bled at all. I had a pack of night pads in super that I took to hospital, and a further few packs at home and haven't opened any of them!
So I'd say don't buy anything too expensive or specific (like maternity pads)
Good luck with your op! X
Hi EndoSuckss, thanku for the advice, I hope ur doing well after ur surgery, do u have any gd tips for the day and weeks after? It's now starting to feel so real 😬 did u take peppermint capsules or simulator? Xx
Hiya!
I did a post a couple of weeks after my hysterectomy, but I'd say the best advice I have is rest as much as you can! Prep as much as you can before you go in to hospital - put a little box with painkillers etc next to your bed, an easy to read book etc so in the first few days all you need to do it get up to wee!
I didn't take any peppermint capsules, but I did have to take lactulose and laxido for about 2 weeks after surgery to stay comfortable. I wish I'd had this prepared before I came home from hospital, and had to send the husband out to get lactulose on day 5 post op!
Loose comfy clothes, rest, and drink water like its your job! You've got this lovely!
If you've got any questions about anything I'm happy to try and answer xx
Hi, thanku so much, it's crazy the day uve been waiting for for nearly 2years and now I'm crapping myself 😬😂 I will defo have a read of ur post, I'm lucky my husband's work have said he can work from home till I'm at least able to drive, so he'll be home to help and run the kids about 😉 I'll defo get the lactose ready! How long did u have to stay in hospital? I was quite shocked that I'll have to stay in for at least 2 nights! Xx
I was told I'd be in for at least 2 nights, but I was home after 1 night! The nurses were lovely, but I couldn't wait to go home. I was lucky enough to have the first surgery of the day, and left hospital the following evening after I was mobile, done a couple of wee's and eaten. I was much more comfortable and relaxed at home than I was in hospital. Xx
I have heavy periods and I find washable pads paired with washable period pants the best, not leaked once while using them, they hold so much more! Although, I completely understand that they’re not for everyone as you do need to rinse them out before washing them😅
I found that the outlay for resuseables wasn't worth it for post-hysterectemy as they'd never be used again!
They’re good to take, I took normal night pads. I used them just in case but I didn’t need them at all.
