I have my diagnostic laparoscopy in 11 days and was wondering what people's recovery time was, I'm a nurse and as you can imagine work is incredibly busy and heavy at the moment so want a rough idea how long I'll need to recover. Thanks in advance for your help.

I think it can vary a lot. I’ve had two laparoscopies and I found that I was mostly recovered by a week after the second one (where I had less done). After the first one (which involved more) I went back to work after two weeks and that was too soon really. If your laparoscopy is purely diagnostic recovery could be on the shorter side but it really depends on how things go and how your body heals.
It must be a difficult situation with your work but if you can take the time you need to recover. All the best for your surgery 😊
Wishing you all the best for your upcoming laparoscopy, which is definitely the best way to diagnose endometriosis.
We have a useful document on our website that outlines what to expect before, during and after the laparoscopy. You can find it at endometriosis-uk.org/your-l...
Everyone's experiences and recovery times are different so take your time and take it easy when recovering.
Hi,I had my lap done 2 weeks ago yesterday. I didn’t have any endo removed but 2 ovarian cysts and an ovary taken away.
I thought I’d be ok after 2 weeks. I’d say I was able to get a lot better after 2 weeks but the last couple of days I’ve felt a bit unwell because I think I’ve tried to do too much. By too much I mean a walk, a couple of washing’s and that’s about it!
Today I went for an afternoon sleep. I’m signed off for 4 weeks and hope to be much better by then but I don’t have an active job. I reckon minimum 4 weeks from what I’ve experienced and read on here xx
It took me about 3-4 wks, when they got in there they found everything fused together and just that look around left me really sore.I would get signed off 3-4 wks and if its hopefully quicker its a bonus. Wishing you all the best for your lap.x
I had a lap around 6 weeks ago now. I had significant endo removal and fibroids removed. I teach and went back to work after 4 weeks on a phased return for two weeks (just mornings) I’m sore and tired by the end of the day like I’ve done 1000 sit ups but managing. I would say plan for 3-4 weeks minimum and any sooner is a bonus.
I’m a care worker and the hospital signed me of for 4 weeks as he said because of the heavy moving he said about a risk of a hernia. But I was fine after a week I wanted to go back 2 weeks early but my work said no as it was an operation. I work nights I went back this week and omg what a shock to the system after that length of time off. Good luck with your Op xx
Thank you you your response. My concern is how heavy work is particularly at the moment, I will definitely be cautious, don't want to make myself worse for the sake of making up the numbers at work. Hope you are all better now! X
