What is cyst bursting pain like?

Those that have had cysts burst what was the pain like?

I have a 22cm mass, and the past week had a like stabbing pain that comes and goes in my left hand side under my hip bone for the last week. It's getting progressively worse.

What I've read though is, it's a more traumatic pain? And people are being sick with pain?

Anyone advise? I have a trainee GP ringing this afternoon. My consultant is a 100 miles away so can't get advice from them.

Thank you everyone.

Hey! I’ve only had a larger cyst burst once but I can remember the pain being really excruciating, at first I felt stabbing pain and a radiating ache from my lower left abdomen down my legs and up my back, my tummy also felt like I had very bad cramps but constantly. The pain was so bad that I could only sit with my legs pulled to my tummy and when the hospital tried to lay me down I was a wreck, they put me on morphine which helped but didn’t get rid of it.

I know large masses can put pressure on nerves etc causing pain but it is definitely worth getting checked over as everyones symptoms are different and if it has burst they may need to take action, I was on an IV for a little while after x

Hey! Gosh I've never had a mass that big, mine was only 8cm. However it did burst and I had what felt like a punch to the gut and then it slowly started to fade. Might be worth asking for a scan so that they can see if it has burst or not! Mine was on my Ovary so I was being scanned a lot as they were worried it may have twisted my tubes. Thankfully it didn't!

I hope you feel better soon

Mine was an extreme pain in one place that almost made me faint and eventually subsided after 2 hours. I don’t know how big it was.

Extreme pain, worst I’ve ever experienced. It’s happened a few times for me, and also ovarian torsion, which fortunately resolved but is considered a medical emergency - that was very sudden onset, after I got up to go to toilet in the night, I stood up and bam! So much pain that I struggled to even call my husband to help me, couldn’t speak for the pain. BUT... with hindsight I realise that I did experience sharp pains before this, so do get checked out, your cyst is bigger than any I’ve had. Best wishes

My Cyst (I had two) were the same exact size 22cm and 23cm. I got them removed.

Few days prior to my surgery a cyst burst-from what I could remember I was unable to lay down due to the pain/pressure. Unbearable back pain. I have pretty high pain tolerance but this was something different. The only thing that was comfortable for me was to sit up. I also had very bad left leg pain-along with a fever. It was also uncomfortable for me to bend over. I do remember that my stomach was very hot to the touch and if it was touched...it hurt. I went to the emergency room, got immediate surgery to have multiple cyst removed.
