Laparoscopy or treating endo non-surgical ways?

Hi everyone,

Just writing for a bit of advice please. I am 19 years old and got diagnosed in February via MRI scan (Private). I was previously on the desogestrel pill for 2 years and then had the coil fitted in March 2021 to hopefully reduce the constant bleeding and pain. This helped the bleeding massively but not the pain and has made it worse if anything. My surgeon then offered me to have a laparoscopy (December earliest) to remove the endo, but after he explained the procedure it has made me feel so worried.

So my question is, and I know everyone’s circumstances and condition is different in many ways, am I better to leave the endo for now as I am still young and try seeing a pain therapist, reflexology, anything else I can think of, or go ahead with the surgery to remove the endo?

My diagnosis was - Posterior deep endometriosis involving the posterior aspect of the uterus and the ovaries.

Thank you! X

Hi lovely, it’s completely your decision but I think another reason for the laparoscopy is to hopefully help with the pain. If they remove the endo via laparoscopy it could help with the pain, I’m 22 and I had my first laparoscopy this year and I was terrified but it wasn’t as scary as I thought. Whatever you decide I hope your pain gets better xx

Thank you so much for your reply! I definitely want to improve my pain as my quality of life atm isn’t the best.. but I’m so scared of anything to do with operations or needles and even what the scars may look like.. how did you find your laparoscopy if you don’t mind me asking? And are you 100% glad you did it? Xxx

Personally I think the sooner a laparoscopy gives you a full diagnoses the better. Scans can only see so much. A good doctor will remove the endo and hopefully give you a better quality of life. I’ve had several operations over the years but the best outcome for me was when I had endo removed and a coil inserted.
