Prostap vs Hysterectomy

I'll try to keep this brief.

I'm 45 next month. 4.5 years ago I had my second surgery to remove adhesions/ endo and it was major surgery. Everything that could be stuck together was. After 4 months the pain returned so reluctantly they agreed to give me prostap long term along with HRT. I had been on 2 courses of 6 months previously and it had worked well. Despite having 20+ years of fertility issues, 12 miscarriages and them finding both my tubes were blocked they would not give me a hysterectomy until I was 45. So we went with the prostap. Now, 4 years later they want me to have the surgery.

My question is, Prostap is working perfectly. All I get is the odd twinge now and then.. before this I was in pure agony when it was my period or ovulation. I could barely walk. This has changed my life. I am terrified to trade it in for surgery and risk going back to having pain.

Hubby wants me to have surgery because of increased cancer risks due to never having children. I just want a pain free life.

I am yet to see the specialist about this but my head is all over the place. Can anyone give me some advice? Also why do they sometimes leave ovaries and sometimes not... and what difference does it make? Thanks in advance!

Hi I am on decepeptyl which I believe is like prostap? My BSGE gynaecologist said that it “mimics” a hysterectomy, if I feel better on it and symptoms are less such as pain and bleeding then a hysterectomy will work.I am 39 and no children either.

Leaving the ovaries in means we don’t immediately go into the menopause. However told I will go into the menopause within 5 years.

Like you I want to be pain free and no bleeding or blood issues such as low iron, see so many positive stories about a hysterectomy that I hope it’s me in the future.

It’s a tough decision to have the surgery, I wonder if I am doing the right thing but I want my life back.

Hi, I was on Prostap for a while but it didn't help me. My issue was severe bleeding which resulted in anaemia, I had a huge fibroid that at its largest was the size of a 16 week pregnancy, so large it prevented urination on times, also had recurrent miscarriages. I'd tried various medication, injections etc, nothing stopped my bleeding. I had an abdominal hysterectomy in April 2019 and it's the best thing I've ever done, it's changed my life. I kept my cervix (so still need smears but they deemed it best for me and said it can help prevent prolapse) I also kept my ovaries, this is often done if you are young, I was 42. Retaining the ovaries is useful if you have a while until menopause. Hope that helps a bit. Any questions please feel free to ask.
