Hi everyone, I've recently been diagnosed with endometriosis, I had a laparoscopy just under 6 weeks ago and things seemed to be going ok as I'd had no symptoms. I'm on the combined pill, haven't missed any and yet I've started to get extremely bad period pain for the past 9 days and started bleeding a few days ago. I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else as I'm not sure if this is normal? and if you found anything that helped as paracetamol/ibuprofen isn't really helping with the pain?
I'm just worried that the procedure hasn't helped with my symptoms and I have no idea what to do going forward 😔

Hi pinkbubbles, I was on a combined pill for 7 years (prior to my diagnosis) and started to experience extreme pain and long periods (up to 9 days) with clots whilst on the combined pill. This had never been the case before I started the pill, I had very light and normal periods. I went off the pill 2 years ago and had my laparoscopy around 2 months ago which lead to my endo diagnosis.
Apparently there is a link that high oestrogen (such as combined pill) can potentially worsen endo. I have just started TTC but later on I’m going to look into a progesterone only (mini) pill. Maybe something to discuss with your GP? Although I’ve found that many side effects of the combined pill can be commonly dismissed by GPs.
The only things I’ve found that help for pain are anti inflammatory tablets, heat packs and warm baths. If you’re having pain and worried something is wrong it’s definitely worth contacting your surgeon for a follow up too. Depending on what they did exactly, internal recovery can take a couple of months. I can’t really comment on my post surgical experience related to yours as I wasn’t on the pill at the time. Best of luck with your recovery 💕
