Finally! Someone listened!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share that I had my private appointment with the BSGE registered endo specialist and after 10 years of being messed around and fobbed off and told its all in your head...someone finally listened! He's wanting to do a lap and says he expects to see endo from all my symptoms, feels amazing to finally be listened to. He's even put me on his NHS list so I don't have to pay for the surgery 😁 so glad I took the plunge and paid for a private specialist! Anyone who is debating if they should do it, in my opinion it is worth every penny!

3 months all being well :) if I paid private I could have it sooner, but he said if he finds it on my bowel or anywhere like that then he would have to arrange a second surgery, the wait for that one is 18 months on the NHS so I think I'll pay for that if I need it :) then I'm not waiting top long xxx

That's amazing news! It's such a relief when you're finally listened to - like you, I also went private for my initial consultation but I've been added to the consultant's NHS list for the treatment. Also like you, I have been fobbed off by my GPs, saying it's IBS and then when I was at the end of my tether the GP suggested that I have health anxiety and offered antidepressants!!! Good luck with your treatment xx

Gosh they are so quick to suggest it is all in your head! GPs really need to start doing some extra training on dealing with chronic pain! I'm glad you've also got help, even though we shouldn't of had to pay for it to get it! Xxx

This is great news! And 3 months is not too long to wait at all for the lap! I originally had to wait till Dec 21 for a phone consultation with gynae at my local hospital now they've given me a Sept appointment after saying I need one sooner. I'm seriously considering going for a private consultation now. I didn't know you could pay to have a private consultation then go onto an NHS list! Xxx

Gosh that is a ridiculous waiting time for you! Omg! I would definitely be considering it love, it's been well worth the money. Getting in the door is the main part because then the specialist will write to your GP and explain why you need the referral so your GP can't say no! Makes things loads easier, I told him my GP surgery can be really awkward and only 1 of the doctors there ever listens and helps me, but he said he will be writing to them so they can't fob me off again lol xxx

That good to hear! That sounds exactly like my doctor's surgery sometimes I'm not surprised why they only have 1 star rating on the NHS website! The doctor who keeps dealing with me doesn't give as*** and when I complained it was another doctor who said she would send a letter to the hospital to get a sooner appointment...I mean if only the original doctor did her job properly in the fist place! I don't mean to sound ungrateful I know we still have covid rife around but I've worked since I was 12 and paid national insurance since 16 or 17 and don't just go to the doctors on a whim! 😔Anyway, I'm so glad you're getting somewhere now 😃 would be great if you could keep us updated with how it goes xxx

Definitely agree there, if they did their job properly straight away then there wouldn't be any need to complain. I think some docs just get their heads stuck up their back side and can't seem to listen anymore! Yep I'll definitely update everyone, really hoping that things go smoothly and it is just mild endo, but with my symptoms I'm keeping in mind that it may not be so simple. Xxx

That's amazing news! I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did you go about arranging a private appointment? Did you just phone the nearest BSGE centre to you and ask to book in privately for a consultation? Thanks 🙂

Thank you :) I don't mind at all. I used the BSGE website, just Google BSGE registered endometriosis consultants near me and it will take you to a page where you put your post code in :) then just click on the centres that you would be willing to travel to and research the consultants. I picked one further away because he had a better understanding of endo and was even in the newspaper, so googling the consultant names is a huge benefit. Then I just found out where they had their private practice and made an enquiry online to request an appointment :) was super easy! Xxx

Just wanted to say thanks again for this. After the info you shared about private appointments, I've now had a diagnosis and referral for surgery. So relieved- been going round in circles with my GP/ being misdiagnosed/ referrals for endless blood tests for years. It was amazing just to be able to go straight to an endometriosis specialist and get the right tests done! Thanks again 💚

I'm so so glad you've finally got the right help and a diagnosis! It's awful that we have to pay for it privately, more funding needs to go into the NHS for endometriosis :( but at least you have the right care now! All the best lovely xxx

Hi! I know this is an older post now, but I just wondered how long it took from this appt to your lap?

I have a friend considering doing a private consultation and then going on NHS waiting list - so any insight would be amazing! ❤️

CryBaby91 profile image

Hey, sadly I've still not had my lap :( I am on an NHS waiting list on the urgent list but I've been told I have at least 4 months to wait. Been on it around 2 months so far. So she could be looking at around 6 months depending where she is love. I do have a slightly longer wait because mine is a specialist and he wants to do the surgery himself so that's adding time on.

But it was worth paying to go see him privately just so I knew he would be worth waiting for surgery wise. I know when I do have that surgery it's going to be done by someone who knows endo inside out. So in that sense I'm glad I did it :) but it sadly doesn't lessen the wait on the NHS, it just helps you find the best gynecologist.

All the best! Xxx

It took a couple of months from my initial private appointment to be on his NHS list, around 9 weeks of waiting :( then it took a few more weeks to get the preop appointment done, so time sadly ticks on :( can be a lengthy process! Xxx
