Has anyone had constant bleeding for longer than 12 weeks after having the mirena coil fitted for treatment of endometriosis?

Hey! So my coil story isn’t the ‘typical’ story due to my own personal circumstances. I had my marina coil in for about 5 months. As soon as it was fitted I knew something was wrong it felt so wrong. I bled for 5 months straight. No breaks not even one day. They even injected me with hormones to stop the bleeding which didn’t help. I experienced extreme stabbing pain which felt like it was coming from my pelvis and stabbing downwards. I was referred for a scan to see if it was in the right place and it was fine so I saw a specialist who diagnosed me with a small uterus. There literally wasn’t enough room for the coil! My body was trying to contract it out of me!!!! He took it out and at first he couldn’t see it due to the amount of blood! I’ve heard great things about the coil so getting it fitted was always going to be something I wanted to try. Now I know. I was told that you can bleed for up to 6 months whilst it settles but because of the pain I was in I knew something wasn’t right. I hope you stop bleeding soon and that the coil brings you some relief! Xx

Hi there, I had the coil fitted in December and I still get spotting. Sometimes I have nothing at all for a few weeks and then I get spotting for 2 weeks straight. I also bleed after sex. This can just be a side effect of the coil and nothing to worry about. If you are also in pain then it can mean the coil has perforated the uterus, or if the blood smells bad (sorry, gross!) then it can mean an infection. No harm in checking with your doctor xxx

I did not have a good experience with the coil. I had to get it taken out and it was like an instant relief.

I was on the copper coil for over a year but they took that out and replaced with a mirena one when endometriosis was suspected. On the Mirena, I bled almost every day from November to mid March. I was getting to th point where I wanted it out, but then it suddenly eased. I now barely have a period and it has helped a bit with endo symptoms.

Everyone is different, and I would still say if you're at 12 weeks and bleeding, I would contact your GP. Better to have an appointment and not need it, then to have to be put further back on a waiting list.
