Progesterone??

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice. I’m 22 and I was diagnosed with endo when I was 18, I’ve had 3 laparoscopies burning the endo and removing ovarian cysts. I’ve just been told to go on the pill to manage the symptoms. The last few months I’ve been in agony missing time off work and I’ve been given an emergency referral to the gynaecologist and codeine to manage the pain in the meantime. However this was a month ago and I’ve heard nothing. This weekend the pain was so bad I ended up in A&E. I have never been made to feel so stupid in my life and I felt like the gynaecologists and nurses felt like I was wasting their time but I had no idea what to do as the codeine wasn’t enough. They’ve given me progesterone tablets to try and stop my periods but when I asked if this will affect my fertility the reply was “no but if you’re worried about that then you should be worried about the endometriosis”. I feel like I don’t know what I’m taking as I was given hardly any info about it. I don’t suppose you know anything about this? I’ve tried to do some research and read it’s like an early menopause? I’m just really scared because although I’m desperate for the pain to stop, I don’t want to be putting something in my body that I don’t know what it’s doing. I really would appreciate any advice!! Thank you 💛

Hey I’m 22 too! I’m waiting for my first lap to diagnose endo as I’ve got a cyst on my ovary and get horrendous pain. I actually called 111 last night because I was in that much pain and they told me to ring me GP which I did and all she said was to go to A&E if it’s urgent and hung up the phone??? She didn’t even ask what the problem was, I must have been on the phone to get for less than a minute. I told the receptionist that I was in a lot of pain from my period so all I can think is that the GP has seen period pain and just brushed it off. It makes me feel so stupid and like I’m wasting their time and makes me not want to ask them for help because they don’t help me anyway. I’ve been put on the pill to try and ‘control’ symptoms but it ain’t working because I’m still in pain. I’m on the combined pill at the minute and I’m only having a break every 3 months as advised. I’m sorry I don’t have much advise but I just wanted to reach out as I know how you feel and it’s so shit! I really hope you get the help you deserve soon! X

It’s so nice to hear I’m not the only one feeling like I’m such an inconvenience!! It’s not fair though is it. Especially when the pain is so excruciating. I also find it crazy how common it is yet no one knows much/anything about it! Xx

Hi! I was given progesterone only pills as the combined pin didn’t work for me. For me, both pills just made the matter worse. After 2 months of taking them I felt immense pressure in my lower stomach and decided to stop taking them. They also didn’t help with the pain. Sorry I can’t advise you any further... just giving my experience xx

Thank you! I appreciate you telling me your experience with it!! I know endometriosis can effect your fertility but does the progesterone pill alone effect your fertility do you know? Xx

Just done some quick research on it. The progesterone pill doesn’t have permanent effect of fertility. I’ve never seen research that proves it causes infertility so you should be okay xx
